“He begged for my help, yetwon’t let me do anything other than explain the steps to him,” Chase gives me a pointed look, before turning to face Hunter. “That he’s fucked up countless of times.”
Okay, I wouldn’t exactly say I “begged” for his help…unless of course you’re counting me being down on my knees, hands clasped together in front of me while I promised I’d do anything he wants in exchange for helping me as begging…thenmaybeI did beg.
“I wanted to do it myself, to prove I can,” It’s the truth. “It’s not my fault the shells keep getting in the mixture!” Totally my fault. “And it’s not my fault the flour was clumpy.” Also was my fault.
“I told you to use the sieve.” Chase mutters, gesturing toward the counter.
“What the fuck is a sieve?” I grumble, hands flying in the air in frustration.
“Uh, that metal thing with holes,” Hunter points toward the counter. “It’s literally on the counter right in front of you.”
“See, even Hunter knows what a fucking sieve is.” Chase laughs.
“Well, as fun as this has been, I’m off on a date,” Hunter grins, putting his phone back in his pocket. “Have fun baking the cakeorturning it into a failed science experiment.”
“Fuck you.” I growl, lifting a handful of flour ready to launch it at him.
“Greyson.” Chase scolds me like I’m a child.
I huff, throwing the flour back into the bowl with a bit more force than necessary as Hunter walks away, his laughter echoing through the kitchen.
Releasing a heavy breath, I reach out and grab the sieve, gripping the handle and twirling it around in my hand a few times before turning to face Chase.
“Maybe I do need your help.” I mutter under my breath.
“What was that?” He looks at me and smirks, clearly knowing what I said.
I hate him.
I close my eyes, calming myself down before opening them to look at him. “Can you help me?”
He grins. “Wasn’t so hard, was it?”
Coming from someone who’s always been alone and didn’t like to ask for help, yes, it was fucking hard. But I also knew it was going to be worth it, for Lilly.
Chapter 54
Greyson
My hand shakes as I lift it up to knock on the door.
I shouldn’t be nervous, but for some reason anytime I’m around this girl butterflies erupt in my stomach. It's not like it's a calm flutter either, it's an intense one that makes me feel uneasy and light-headed. But in a good way.
Hell, all this girl had to do was breathe near me and my hands would grow clammy from the nerves.
And I don't think she realizes quite the effect she actually has over me.
The door swings open and the girl of my dreams stands there, a towel wrapped around her head and a purple robe on.
“Hey,” she smiles, tilting her head to the side and inspecting me. “What are you doing here?”
Okay, so the plan was to originally come tomorrow morning and give everything to her, but after I baked the cake with Chase—which turned out amazing—I was feeling impatient and needed her to see it immediately. Plus, I wanted to see hertonight.
“Just wanted to see my girl.” Not a lie.
She smiles, and gestures for me to come in. “I was just about to get dressed,” she says as she closes the door behind me. “Let’s go to my room.”
I nod, following behind her with my duffle bag weighing me down. Once we reach her room, she closes the door behind us and turns to me, lifting herself on her toes, she plants a kiss on my lips.
