Giving her a puzzled look, I twist my head to see what she’s pointing at, and my eyes widen when I realize what she means. It’s a Riverside Dragons sweater with Greyson’s surname and number printed largely on the back. Holy fuck, how hadn’t I noticed this earlier? No wonder Felix kept smirking at me.
“It was cold at the rink,” I shrug nonchalantly. “And he said I could borrow it.”
Before she can reply, the door pushes open making us take a few steps back as Nina peers inside, wine glass in hand. “What are you two doing in here?”
“Nothing,” Callie shakes her head, smirking as she looks in my direction. “I was just about to shower, and then we’ll start the night, okay?”
“Are they coming?” Payton stands beside Nina, peering into the room too.
“I was before someone interrupted me.” Callie smirks, nudging my shoulder.
My cheeks flush.
“Huh?” Payton looks at her confused.
“Nothing,” shaking her head, she walks over to her bathroom. “I’m gonna shower and then girls' night can commence.”
Girls’ night started on a random Thursday back in freshman year, and ever since then, we declared Thursdays a night solemnly for the girls.
The night consists of wearing matching pajamas, getting wine drunk, cooking, baking, putting face masks on, painting each other’s nails—if we’re not too drunk, and watching rom coms that are so cringe you can’t help but love them.
But it’s the time spent together—sharing stories, dreams, and laughing until tears are streaming down our faces that makes the evening better. It’s those moments that I love, because sometimes all you need is your girls around, and it’s like nothing else in the world matters.
“We’ll have the wine waiting.” Nina grins, grabbing hold of Payton’s arm.
“Wines,” Payton corrects her. “As in plural, because we all know that one bottle isn’t going to be enough.”
Nina nods her head, giggling as she pulls Payton down the hallway. Shaking my head at them both, I walk over to the bed, pick up the bag filled with books, that feels like it’s filled with Bricks, and turn to walk away.
“Lilly?” Callie’s voice stops me in my tracks as I begin walking out of the room.
“Hmm?” I ask, spinning to face her.
Leaning against the open bookshelf that leads to her bathroom, she glances at the bag on my shoulder. “You better return them in the same condition I gave them to you in.”
“I will, don’t worry.”
“No, I’m serious.Please don’t ruin them.”
“You’re acting like I’m babysitting your child for you.” I laugh.
“Children,” she deadpans. “Those books are my children, so you better take care of them like they’re living and breathing.”
“You’re so dramatic.” Rolling my eyes, I walk toward her door.
“I mean it, Lilly!” She shouts.
“Got it!” I shout back.
Chapter 20
Greyson
A loud knock reverberates across the room making me wipe my sweaty hands down my jeans. Inhaling a breath, I stand from the kitchen stool and make my way toward the door.
Glancing at myself in the mirror that’s in the entryway, I run a shaky hand through my hair as I will the nerves to calm.
Fuck, why am I so nervous?
