Milo's face lit up with delight. "That was amazing! Can you do it again? Maybe with something less crumby?"

"It's not a party trick, Milo," Fenric chided, though without his usual sharpness. "This could indicate a significant shift in Winter's prophetic trajectory."

"Or it could just be a temporary fluctuation," Zane countered, moving to stand closer to me, completing our strange circle. "Let's not jump to apocalyptic conclusions before we've had coffee."

The tension in the air eased slightly at his wry tone, and I felt a rush of gratitude for his calming presence. Still, I couldn't shake the feeling that this development was more significant than any of us wanted to admit.

"Fenric," I turned to him, knowing he was our best source of information. "Have you ever seen anything like this in the Bureau records? Prophetic vessels whose powers suddenly just, well, leveled up?"

He hesitated, which was answer enough. "There are some historical precedents, yes. Though the circumstances were rarely identical."

"And what happened to them?" I hesitated. "These other vessels?"

Another hesitation. "The outcomes varied. Some managed to stabilize at their new power level. Others..."

"Others what?" Rook growled when Fenric trailed off.

"Others were eventually consumed by their own prophetic energy," Fenric admitted quietly. "The power became too much for a human vessel to contain."

A heavy silence fell over our group. I could feel all four of them looking at me with varying degrees of concern, fear, and determination.

"Well, that's not happening to me," I declared with more confidence than I felt. "We've gotten through everything else this annoying prophecy has thrown at us. We'll figure this out too."

Milo nodded vigorously. "Absolutely. Besides, you've got us. All of us." He glanced at the others, his expression unusually serious. "We're in this together, right?"

"Of course," Zane's voice was firm.

"Always," Rook's grip on my arm tightened slightly.

Fenric hesitated only briefly before nodding. "The Bureau's resources are at your disposal. And..." He cleared his throat, "my personal assistance as well."

Something warm unfurled in my chest at their unanimous support. These four impossible men, so different from each other, united in their determination to help me.

"Thank you," I smiled at each of them in turn. "Now, can we please have breakfast before anything else weird happens? I'm starving."

The moment of solemnity broken, we moved inside to the kitchen. Zane took charge of cooking, whipping up a batch of pancakes while Milo set the table with his usual chaotic enthusiasm. Fenric retrieved his tablet and began researching prophetic evolution patterns, while Rook kept a watchful eye on me, as if expecting me to suddenly explode with magical energy.

I sat at the kitchen island, watching them move around each other with a synchronicity that would have seemed impossible weeks ago. Rook and Zane still exchanged the occasional sharp glance, and Fenric maintained a certain professional distance, but the antagonism that had once defined their interactions had mellowed into something more like reluctant respect lined with sexual tension.

"Here," Zane placed a stack of pancakes in front of me. "Eat. You'll need the energy."

I took a bite, closing my eyes in appreciation. "These are amazing."

"Two centuries gives you time to perfect a recipe," he winked, turning back to the stove.

As we ate, I noticed Milo studying the sketch he'd made of the strange symbol from the grove. He'd been working on it since we returned yesterday, adding details and notes in his cramped handwriting.

"Any insights?" I nodded toward the drawing.

Milo shook his head, frustrated. "Not really. It doesn't match any necromantic sigils I know, and I've compared it to most of the standard magical reference texts. It's like nothing I've ever seen."

Fenric glanced up from his tablet. "May I?" He held out his hand for the sketch.

Milo passed it over, and Fenric studied it with his usual meticulous attention. His brow furrowed as he traced the intricate lines with one finger.

"This is...unusual," he finally shrugged. "There are elements that resemble ancient binding symbols, but the configuration is entirely novel."

"Binding?" I froze remembering the whispered words I'd heard in the grove. "Like soul binding?"
