He wore a blue and green kilt, and a thick knit jumper. And somehow that outfit really worked for him.

“Yeah, it’s good to see you. It’s Noah, isn’t it?” He gave me a half smile that unsettled me a little. I brushed my curls behind my ear and ran a hand over my nape.

Are you flustered, Bright?

“Yeah, it is.”

“Ollie told me you lived in Bali these days, is that right? Sorry, what did you want again?”

Red tinged Hunter’s cheekbones.

“I didn’t say. Can I get a coffee, no sugar, just milk? Yes, I live in Bali. I’m just in the area for a couple of months until my visa gets renewed.”

He slithered over to the coffee machine and pressed a button for a standard coffee.

“Milk is over there.” He pointed to a little tray on my left and placed the steaming cup in front of me.

I pulled my wallet out, but he waved me off.

“It’s on the house, for old times’ sake.”

“No, I can’t accept that.” I open my wallet, ready to pay him.

I can afford it. I’m not that poor.

“Yes, you can. It’s my treat.”

Is Hunter McBride flirting with me?

My thoughts strayed back to Lewis. It had barely been forty-eight hours since we started fake dating for social media, and here I was shamelessly flirting with someone else.

“Thanks. I appreciate it.”

Hunter gave me that half smile again. He had a little dimple in his cheek.

“How long are you staying in the area? I don’t know if you’ve heard, but there is a pub night coming up at Lone Fox Distillery.Oh.” He blushed fiercely, the smattering of scales on his face glowing like the setting sun. “I completely forgot that Ollie works at LFD, of course you know about the pub night. Sorry, I was just wondering if I’d see you there.”

Okay, Hunter was definitely flirting with me. And usually I wouldn’t be too opposed. He was gorgeous, but there was Lewis, and our pact.

“Yeah, I’ll probably be there with Lew, I don’t know if you remember him, Lewis Sinclair?”

His face fell a little.

“Yes, of course I remember him. Are you two dating?” He tried for an offhand voice.

“Well, to tell you the truth I don’t really know.” Somehow I found it difficult to lie to Hunter. “We only just reconnected and ….“

“I understand.” His smile was genuine.

Do you? Because I’m not sure if I understand a single thing.

“Well, I guess I’ll see you there.”

“Yeah, you will. Thanks again for the coffee. I’ll go have a look around. I haven’t been to your farm in ages.”

“You’re welcome. It was good to see you.”

He gave me a slightly wistful little grin and raised his hand goodbye.
