“I love it.” She breathed out heavily. My fingers locked on the spot, gently rubbing a circle around it.
“How’s this?” Drew’s booming voice startled us.
April tore her eyes away from her wrist and to the page with the simple Twister drawing that resembled an upside down spring and grinned. “Perfect.”
April fidgeted in the chair while the guy prepped everything. I grabbed her hand to ease some of her anxiety. She smiled sheepishly at me. It was a big moment and I was so fucking excited for her.
“That obvious, eh?”
“I mean, you’re trembling enough you could vibrate right off the chair.” I chuckled. “Besides, what better way to end our trip in Philly?”
She flushed, and I wasn’t sure if it was because of the idea of her getting a tat or the way we spent the entire weekend in bed when we weren’t at the ballpark. But either way, I’d take that happy look she was sporting any day of the week.
Drew came over and started the machine. The sound of it was loud and startled April.
“It’s okay. It won’t hurt much.” He smiled genuinely at her.
The needle pinched along her soft skin, instantly marking it an angry pink. April sucked her lip between her teeth and hissed. After a few minutes, she relaxed enough to let go from her crushing grip. The entire thing took all of thirty minutes and she was officially inked. And I was entirely turned on.
CHAPTER 32
APRIL
I’d done it. I’d gotten a tattoo. It was small, the perfect shade of charcoal grey and black, and it matched the logo. When Josh had asked me what I wanted, I’d had no idea. But I knew it needed to be something meant for me. The logo was about more than work. I belonged with them. It was a place that I felt secure and needed. It gave me confidence and that was worth everything. Plus, I loved that it represented chaos and destruction, something I felt like my life was most of the time.
The entire walk back to the hotel, I beamed. Josh had held it up to inspect it and he gave it the gentlest kiss. My heart squeezed. I’d even sent a pic to Nora.
Nora: Holy shit!
Me: Isn’t it great!
Nora: It’s amazing. Your mom is gonna kill you.
I snorted. She wasn’t wrong. The thing was, I wasn’t sure I cared.
Me: Probably, but I don’t care.
Nora: (Mouth open emoji.) Wow, some good dickin’ and suddenly a new woman.
Me: OMG. That has nothing to do with it.
Nora: Right and who was with you?
Me: …
Nora: Exactly. Man, am I jealous it wasn’t me, but I love you even if I’m no longer needed.
Me: You’re always needed. No dick will replace you.
Nora: Damn right. But look, I gotta get back to my own good time. You’re home tomorrow?
Me: Yes.
Nora: Girls’ night!
Me: Yes!
Nora: xoxo be safe.
