“Very much.” He traced a finger along my midriff and sucked in a breath. “But I’m afraid I wouldn’t let you sleep.”

I pouted. “Another orgasm would make me fall asleep quicker.” Then again, I may have nightmares and make a scene in the middle of the night I’d rather him not see.

Rowan chuckled, the deep and sexy sound flowing in the evening breeze toward me. If I could catch it, I would store it in a jar to open whenever I needed a pick-me-up.

“I should go.” Rowan placed a hand on my cheek, nah, the entire side of my face with how big his paw was, and kissed me briefly. Once. Then again.

I chased his lips for more, but he pulled away.

“Are you busy tomorrow evening?” I asked.

“No. Unless you want to make me busy.”

I chewed on my lower lip. “I do.” You’re too clingy. Get a grip. We can’t see each other all the time; you have other things to do. Andrew’s words rang in my head. “But we don’t have to meet every day. Only when we want to. So like, no pressure. You’re in town only for a few weeks and I need to let off some steam. It’s just that,” I added hastily.

Rowan frowned, then nodded once. “Of course. That works for me. But…” He leaned in to whisper in my ear. “Can I have your number?”

I let out a relieved giggle. “Yup. Are you ready?”

Rowan fished out his phone in a nanosecond. “Go ahead.” He typed in the digits I dictated and sent a text:

See you tomorrow morning.

Author’s notes:

They exchanged numbers!! As I promised :P It only took them seven chapters LOL

P.S. I’m also pausing updates to my “Seduced by the Gorgon” fic for now. I HAVE TO write this first! Sorry (not really tho).

This one-shot turned out to be a bit longer, oops!

The meeting dragged on until ten in the stuffy conference room, filled with people whose expressions said, “this could have been an email”. But the head of the New York-based company was happy with the state of their finances for now, so Tom, our boss, gave us a pat on the back. That was what we’d usually get for going above and beyond for a client, unless we’d reached higher targets than our other offices, then our quarterly bonus would be hefty.

Now, I had to organize paperwork for the afternoon sit-and-snooze and do calculations. The last one was my favorite part. It was as satisfying as cleaning, organizing, sort of like…playing Tetris. But the office silence, broken only by the constant tattooof fingers on keyboards and an occasional cough, was driving me insane.

Troy’s desk was facing mine, which meant I knew when he was texting ‌my sister—he was sporting a silly, lovesick grin.

“I’ll work until the lunch break from the cafe,” I said. “I need a change of scenery.”

Troy finished tapping on his phone and looked up. “I hear the view there is good too.” He waggled his eyebrows.

“Maybe it is.” My cheeks hurt from holding onto a smile that threatened to overtake my face.

“Oh, did something happen?”

“A lot.”

Troy hooted so loud, several people turned our way. I waved them off.

He rolled his chair closer. “Tell me.”

“We had a great evening. Obviously, it’s casual for both of us, so no strings, and no drama. He knows I’m going home in two months and he’s not looking for anything serious either.”

“Are you a rebound?”

“Possibly. He did mention a nasty ex, but I don’t mind.”
