Chapter Three
Tannin knocked on herdoor.Maudie told him earlier that his son and her niece Angel were out in the back ten of Maudie’s backyard having a picnic under the watchful eyes of Ruby and Ragan.He wanted to check on Bethy before they got back.
Bethy opened the door.Then she reached over and f tugged him in.
He laughed.
“I wanted to see you,” she said as she led him over to sit on the bed.
“Oh?”he asked as he sat down with her.“I wanted to see you too.”
“When are we gonna...”They both said at the same time.
Both of them laughed now.
“You go first,” he urged.
She bit at her lip as she confessed, “I’ve been wishing we could be alone and now we are.I was going to go looking for you.”
“Exactly my thoughts.”He smiled at her.“I have been waiting and dreaming of our reunion.”
“Me too,” Bethy said nervously.Then she slowly raised her gaze to his.“But I’m nervous.I had a baby and my body isn’t like it was before.”
“You are more beautiful than when we were together before.”
She sighed.“I know you say that but—”
He grabbed her upper arms and gazed into her eyes.“You are the first and only woman I ever loved.I know how beautiful you are.I want you and no one else.I mean why else would I ask five times already to marry you?”He grinned at her.
She stared up at him then smiled back.“That’s right, why would you?”
“I love the way you look.The sound of your voice and the way you taste when I kiss you.”
Bethy smiled at him.“I’m just nervous...”
He nodded.“We don’t have to do this now, if you aren’t ready.”
“Really?”she asked.
