She wanted to say something... many things... but forced herself to remain silent. Naught she'd said thus far had swayed him. Some said she talked too much. Maybe that was true. If he looked into her eyes and saw her feelings for him, 'haps that would be clearer than words.

"Are you well?" he asked.

She shook her head. How could she be when the person she wanted most in the world didn't want her?

Unable to stop the tears, she closed her eyes and buried her face against his chest. He held her and kissed the top of her head.

"Stop it, Cat," he murmured, stroking her back.

His strong hand felt so comforting. The way he caressed her back, 'twas almost as if he cared.

Keeping her eyes closed, she imagined what it would feel like if he did care. If he loved her. 'Twould be like heaven on earth. Joy spiraled through her, and she kissed his chest.

She wanted to say... do you not see, Torr, how perfect this could be... how we could bring each other boundless joy?

Touching him, she lit up inside. Never had she felt this way before.

Her skirt tail had ridden up, and his warm hand slid up her calf to her knee. Energy tingled from the spot he touched and spread throughout her body

She slipped her arm around his back to pull him closer and pressed her lips against his flat nipple.

He drew in a hissing breath. Restraining his movements, he tugged up her skirts in a fist, then spread a hot, gentle hand over her upper thigh.

She sighed with the pleasure of it.

Brushing his lips against her forehead, he continued to caress her. Goodness, her skin was so sensitive. She relished the heated touch of his hand, but she craved more.

Inhaling his arousing male scent, she kissed his chest again.

He trailed his hand upward, beneath her skirts, to her hip. Moaning, he squeezed her bare derriere in a strong hand and dragged her to him.

Her heartbeat speeding up, she wrapped her arms around his neck and held him tightly. He would take her, and she would give him her heart.

"I should nay be touching you, Cat," he whispered.

Aye, you should. She wanted to tell him but didn't want to drive him away with words.

With her hands, she explored the fascinating ridges of muscle in his chest and abdomen.

Surely, if she pleased him, he would want to wed her. She didn't care what her clan or MacPeter thought about it. If Torr wished to marry her, she would give her vow this day. Since Brodie and Torr were friends, she would ask her brother to smooth things over with the clan. Brodie would not care about an alliance with the MacPeter clan.

Wanting to be closer to Torr, Cat pressed the front of her body firmly against him. Growling, he rolled her backward, lay over her, and kissed her. Saints, how she loved his mouth.

He nibbled at her lips, then explored deep, patiently showing her what he liked. His wicked tongue had its way with hers, teasing and taunting. But she craved all of him. The ache within her intensified, and she whimpered.

Torr was so delectable he made her dizzy.

"I must be a madman," he muttered as he tugged down the neck of her smock and brushed his lips over her breast.

A bolt of arousal shot through her, and she gasped, arching to him. He licked and suckled gently. Oh, the pleasure of it!

Hissing, she threaded her fingers into his hair, holding his head in place, the better to feel his stubbled jaw rasping against her sensitive skin, his demanding lips plucking at her nipple.

He raised his head slightly, his eyes dark with need. "You're more delicious than a handful of comfits."

"Nay, you are," she whispered. She wanted to beg him to make love to her but dared not speak words that would deter him. She would be patient and see what sensual delights he would heap upon her.

After a moment, he treated her other breast to the same breathtaking torment.
