I wonder what happened with Jack.

I can deal with that later, however, because what Dandy reveals changes the course of everything.

“Fucking Rebecca Bloom! She’s dead! They found her in the university gym.She was decapitated!”

“Fuck,” Kit curses under his breath before jumping out of bed and dressing in a pair of blue jeans.

My sleepy brain still can’t comprehend what Dandy has revealed.“Dead?”

“Yes, Hallie, fucking dead! It’s all over the news!”Dandy reaches for the remote and switches on the TV.

We silently watch as the news anchor recounts the gruesome discoveries made.No suspects, but the police are ruling it murder.

“No fucking shit, Sherlock,” Dandy says with a smile.“She has no fucking head!”

The reality of this soon hits hard, and I understand why Kit looks troubled.Dandy doesn’t get it.

“Guys, this is good news, right?Rebecca is the bad guy, and bad guys deserve to get their fucking heads cut off.”

“No, Dandy, this fucks everything up,” Kit replies, tugging at his hair.“Jack agreed to turn on Rebecca, but now that she’s dead, we have no collateral.”

“But you can still reveal what he did, right?”Dandy says, understanding the dilemma.

“Yes, of course we can.But what if the girls get cold feet?It will be Hallie’s word against Jack’s, and who do you think everyone will believe?Hallie’s life is now in danger because I bet Jack will find the girls he assaulted and make them a deal in exchange for their silence.Or worse…”

Kit doesn’t need to fill in the blanks. We all understand he means Jack will silence them for good.

I sit up against the headboard, silent.

“We needed that confession. That was the only way to ensure both Jack and Rebecca paid for their crimes.Fuck!”Kit says, exhaling deeply.

With Jack confessing, no one would dispute him, and Rebecca would be shamed forever. But with her being dead, I feel cheated.

I wasn’t even the one who got the honor.

So, now, the question is, who did?

“I’m sorry, I thought this would be something to celebrate. But now I see that Rebecca was more valuable alive than dead.”

Dandy has hit the nail on the head.

“What can I do?”

“Nothing for now, Dandy,” Kit replies, looking at me.“Just keep an ear out.”

“Of course.”Dandy feels guilty for revealing the news, but it’s not his fault.

He meets my eyes, and I see the glimmer of remorse.

Oh, Dandy, what have you done?

I want to ask him, but I can’t in front of Kit, since Rebecca and Dandy’s history is private. And I made a promise to Dandy.

Dandy’s eyes water before he soon leaves us alone, closing the door behind him.

Kit and I sit quietly, watching the news together as we both try to figure out the same mystery—who killed Rebecca?

“Who do you think it was?”I’m the one to break the silence.
