“You ready to grab a sandwich?” he murmured. But it was the upturn of his sexy mouth and the playfulness in his eyes that made her smile.

“Tease.” She pushed out of his arms and headed for the door. Before she got there, he pulled her close and kissed her. One panty-searing kiss.

Ohmygod.Her blood whooshed through her.

“Not teasing.”

The constant hum of desire burst into a vibrant inferno.

Dakota loved being around Providence, and his attraction to her was off the fucking charts. But they had a damn job to do, so he’d find a way to stay focused.

After eating a sandwich next door, they headed into the parking lot. He’d gotten his truck back, a fresh coat of black paint concealing the truth. At his truck, he lifted her computer bag off her shoulder and set it on the back seat.

“Thank you.”

Those luscious lips of hers were too damn tempting and he fought against the urge to kiss her again.Get it together.

His black site, nestled in a woodsy area of Great Falls, was only fifteen minutes away, but a challenge to find without explicit instructions.

“I’ve never brought anyone from ALPHA here,” he said as he turned down a dirt road.

She laid a soft hand on his arm and his gaze fell on hers. “Thanks for trusting me.”

“It’s part of our new business arrangement,” he said with a wink.

He loved making her smile.

The unmarked building looked more like an abandoned warehouse than a first-class, black site with everything from a small surgery center, to enough bedrooms to sleep ten. What was lacking, at the moment, was grub.

He drove around back, tapped the built-in remote on his visor, and one of the oversized garage doors opened. Once inside, the door closed behind them. The cavernous room housed four identical black SUVs.

“What kind of operation are you running?” she asked.

“A top-secret one,” he said, and opened the truck door.

He stilled at the door while the visual recognition screen captured his retina. When the light turned green, he pushed it open and waited for her to walk through.

When she passed by, her beautiful scent wafted in his direction. It would be so easy to pull her into his arms and kiss the hell out of her. But he did not.

No time for a tour, so he led her to the conference room. They sat side-by-side and logged in to their laptops. Having her next to him made things better…and worse.

She was damn hard to resist.

“We left off with ALPHA,” she said. “When were you an operative, and for how long?”

“Seven years ago, I worked for ALPHA for five years and used my real estate business as a cover.”

“Not an overachiever or anything, are you?”

He loved her sass. “I scaled back on the real estate and never had a full caseload as an operative.”

“How many assignments did you work?”

“Dozens,” he said, pulling up the cases.

“I’m looking for enemies. Someone who’s seeking revenge. Did you testify against the people you caught?”
