“Not according to Tilly, which is why she asked me to assist. I haven’t seen the email, but she mentioned there are a dozen places they want you to visit.”

Her palms grew moist. “So, I’m stuck with you?”

“Afraid so.” He looked pretty damned smug.

She eyed his clothing. “Well, you aren’t working for me dressed likethat.”

He glanced at his suit. “I’ll wear whatever you want under one condition.”

“You’reputting conditions onme?”

“We stop at a wireless store and buy you a phone.”

Refusing to give him the satisfaction of admitting she’d lost hers, she bit back the smile and waited. Surely he’d toss out another condition or ultimatum regarding Starry Cove. He did not. She studied him while weighing her options. His poker face served him well. He gave nothing away. Maybe she could learn a thing or two about business from the king of all things. If she sent him home, she’d be forced to scout locations alone and stew over losing Gerard’s business. But if she agreed to his help and put him to work, what would she owe him at the end? A casino? A shopping outlet?

Keeping him around was a gamble. But she’d been backed into a corner and needed his help. Shifting in the chair, she hitched a brow. “I can be a demanding woman, especially when it comes to my work.”

“I’ll rise to the challenge.” He flashed a grin. “You’ll see. I’m a very hard worker.”

She extended her hand. “Deal.”

They stared into each other’s eyes as they shook on it, and she warmed to his touch. Was he tempting her or teasing her? In either case, she was up for the challenge.Game on, brother.

The server barged in to deliver their beverages. After taking their sandwich orders, he asked if there was anything else they needed.

“Yeah,” she replied. “Is there a place we can pick up some western-wear for my dapper, new assistant?”
