“This is my…” She hesitated. “This is Zander King.”

Zander shook his hand. “Good to meet you.”

“Are you Savannah’s assistant?”

“I’m her managing partner and creative consultant,” Zander replied.

Her lips curved at the corners. “I like that.”

“I’ve been following your career,” Scott said. “You’ve done well with landscapes. Where are you living these days?”

She dragged her attention from Zander. “I’m sorry, what?”

“Doesn’t matter,” he said, shoving his hands into his pockets. “It must be kismet that you strolled in here. I just talked to my agent about you the other day.”

“Oh, yeah?” She slowly pulled her arm off Zander’s shoulder.

“I’m going on a six-month tour. I could use a good assistant, and I’d be willing to feature some of your pieces. It’ll be like old times, only this time we won’t have to pool our pennies to split a burger.” He gestured around the room. “As you can see, I’m doing okay.”

“Congrats on the success. I’m going to pass on the tour, though.” She tucked her hair behind her ear and fiddled with her cuff. “Who’s your agent?”

“Heather Costello. She’s phenom. You?”

“Tilly Mason, for now.”

“If you’re shopping for a new one, I can let Heather know.” With his hands still tucked into his pockets, he shifted back and forth. “Can I steal you away for a few? Maybe change your mind about the tour?”

Savannah flicked her gaze from one man to the other. “Zander and I are on a tight schedule.”

“That’s cool.” He jogged over to the table and returned with a business card. “Call me and we’ll hook up.”

I’m sure you’d like that.

She took the card. “Good luck with your tour.”

“Good seeing you, doll.”

Once they’d walked down the sidewalk, she murmured, “Thirty-five hundred dollars for a shot of geese. He’s living in a fantasy-land.”

Zander smiled. “One you’ve been invited into.”

She stopped at the next storefront and studied a nude sculpture. “I was his assistant right after college. It was cool back then, but not now.”

“What’s changed?”

He hadn’t expected the intensity pouring from her brown eyes. “Everything.”

She was right. Everythinghadchanged. And there was no going back to the way things were.
