“I miss target practice,” she said.

“That was amazing,” Addison said. “I had no idea?—”

“You nailed it, baby,” Hawk added.

“You’ve got a wicked shot,” Sin said.

“I heard you were a hell of a sniper,” Dakota said.

She flashed a smile. “Thank you.”

She could feel Rebel’s gaze drilling into her. When she turned in his direction, a heady mix of emotions filled her. The physical attraction was off-the-charts, but it was the peace in her heart that surprised her the most. It felt like home, every single time.

“Suit up, Brit,” Rebel said. “You can shoot with us today.”

“I got you,” Slash said.

On the way inside, Slash asked, “Where’d you learn to shoot like that?”

“I’m a trained sniper,” Brit replied.

“Damn, you’re good.”

In the locker room, Slash loaded her up with fatigues, body armor, a helmet, ear protection, and goggles. “You could teach us a thing or two about sniper fire.”

Slash left, and Addison suited up.

Back outside, she made her way over to the group. Rebel handed her his weapon. “Fall in line, next to Prescott.”

She did.

Prescott stopped firing, fist-bumped her. “Good to see you. You’re a damn good shot.”

“Thanks,” she replied before moving away from him.

As she readied her shot, a calmness came over her.

Life’s short, shit happens, people are mostly crazy.

Maybe I’m one of the crazies.

She slowed her breathing, focused on the center of the target, relaxed her knees, and pulled the trigger.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Like before, she hit the center each time.

Sometimes a person doesn’t know what they’re missing until they’re reunited with it again. That’s how she felt about target practice. When Rebel came over, that’s how she felt about him too.

He signaled for everyone to stop. They lowered their weapons. He moved everyone back ten yards.

“Fire at will,” he commanded.

Brit eyed the target through the scope and fired. Their barrage of gunfire pierced the quiet woods. When finished, she eyed the target. Again, she’d pierced its center.

Using binos, Rebel reviewed their shots.

“Good work. This was a stretch goal, so I didn’t expect anyone to hit the target. Two of you did. Congrats to Slash and Brit. Brit, you hit dead center again. Okay, team, let’s finish strong with a run.”
