“Uh-huh,” Honor said. “It’s not like their schedule is full or anything. They’re literally planning for the end of time.” She rolled her eyes. “Craig’s been doing that for decades. What anidiot.”

“Will Jordan be there to support you?”

“No. He can’t stand Craig or the cult.” She pushed off the sofa, stood in front of the windows, and hugged herself. “This is a very safe place to live. I feel like a princess in a tower. I would never, ever leave if this were my home.”

Brit’s heart broke for her.

After a long moment, Honor returned to the sofa, her cheeks wet with tears. She removed her coat before easing down next toBrit. “I don’t want to be alone. Will you stay here with me on the couch?”

“Of course,” Brit replied.

Honor removed her shoes and propped her legs on the ottoman. Brit covered her in a large throw.

“Computer, turn off the lights in the living room and kitchen,” Brit said.

The room went dark, but the stove light bathed their faces in a soft glow. Within minutes, Honor was asleep, but Brit sat there staring out the window, her mind still processing everything that had happened.

She found out she was pregnant. Liliana got arrested for being the Alphabet Killer. Jordan was arrested for possession of fentanyl, and her sister was all alone, once again.

Beneath the blanket, Brit laid a protective hand on her tummy.

I will never abandon you.

The day had finally caught up to her and she needed sleep, even if for just a few hours.

Rebel watchedthe live feed of Jordan waiting in the interrogation room. He’d been sitting, now he stood and swung his arms.

Detective Cardoso joined Rebel. “That’s one busy family,” she said. “Do you think he’ll talk?”

“He’ll deny knowing the drugs were there. Beyond that, nothing. I’ll give you a few before I come in.”

Detective Cardoso left the room. Seconds later, she entered the small interview room. “I’m Detective Cardoso.”

“Yeah, we met when my wife was arrested.”

Nikki tossed a nod toward the chair in the corner. “Why don’t you have a seat?”

Jordan folded into the chair. The detective sat across from him.

“I’ll bet this is the last place you thought you’d be,” she began.

After raking his hand through his short hair, he sighed. “I’m still in shock over Liliana’s arrest. I’m couldn’t tell you why, but I think Dillinger has it out for me.”

“Who?” Confusion flashed in her eyes.

“Joaquin Dillinger. Not sure who you know him as, but when I met him, he said his name was Dillinger.” He leaned back in the chair, crossed his ankle over his thigh. More relaxed he could not have looked.

Rebel bit back a smile. Krause was smooth. Rebel hadn’t expected him to go on the offense, but he’d thrown Nikki a curve ball.

She knew him as FBI Agent Bob Jones.

First time for everything.

Rebel didn’t give a fuck that she knew his real name. Krause was in the hot seat, not him.

“Let’s talk about the fentanyl tabs found in your home,” Nikki said. “There were hundreds of them behind one of the paintings. I’m gonna throw out an assumption that my tech team will find thousands more.”
