At three-thirty, he finished the week with a quick de-briefing in the conference room. After everyone had filed out, he hopped online to check email. One caught his eye. DNA results for Krause had come back.

He opened the email, skimmed the contents. Adrenaline punched through him, and he slammed his fist on the table.

Gotcha!

He opened the tracking app.

Earlier, it showed Liliana’s car driving west toward Sanders Ranch. Now, Jordan’s vehicle was also on the move… heading west.

Dread had him bolting toward the exit. Once outside, he ran full-tilt toward the helo. Hawk sat in the cockpit, headset on, blades whirring.

Fuck, no.

Rebel started waving his arms as he closed in on the bird. Hawk glanced in Rebel’s direction, did a double take before removing his earphones, cutting the engine, and climbing out. Keeping his head down, he strode toward Rebel.

“What’s going on?” Hawk asked.

“We gotta weapon up and helo out,” Rebel said. “Is anyone else still here?”

“They’re gone,” Hawk replied. “Where we headed?”

“To the cult.” Rebel called Brit, put the call on speaker. It rang, no answer.

“Call Addison,” Rebel said.

“What the hell?—”

“Do it.”

Hawk called his wife, got no answer.

“I’m sending them a text.” Rebel’s fingers flew over the keys. “Get out of there! CALL ME ASAP!”

“Brother, you gotta talk to me.”

“Jordan Krause is Whitaker. Harvey Whitaker.”

“Who the hell is that?”

“The monster who took out my dad. And he’s on his way to Sanders Ranch.”

“My go-bag’s in the bird,” Hawk said.

“I left mine inside.” Rebel bolted into the building. Seconds later, he jumped into the chopper and pulled on a headset. “We got this.”

Dread pounded through him, but he rejected the fear that circled like a frenzy of hungry sharks. Wearing their fatigues, combat boots, and body armor, they were ready to fly.

While Hawk contacted the control tower, Rebel pulled up a map of the compound. Six buildings were nestled in the middle of fucking nowhere First Valley.

“Here we go, baby,” Hawk said as the bird went airborne.

“How long?” Rebel asked.

“Thirty, but she’ll do it in twenty,” Hawk replied. “This baby’s gonna give me everything she’s got.”

The room was packed. There had to be two hundred people sitting shoulder to shoulder, their attention glued to the front of the room. The lights had dimmed, that single spotlight illuminating the large, upholstered chair, center stage.
