Honor dropped Jordan’s hand, walked to the edge of the stage, and glared at Brit. “Here’s how this is going to go. My sisters are going to stand up. No one else will move. We’re leaving. The Sanders followers are staying. Chant or say something if you understand my instruction.”
A chorus of chants filled the room.
Honor held up her hand and they stopped. That elicited a smile. “Hey, maybe I should stay and be your new leader.”
If I can get her alone, I can overpower her, and take her weapon.
But Brit would never leave Addison alone with Jordan. And she doubted Jordan would abandon Honor.
Honor lowered her hand. The chanting ceased, the room grew eerily silent. She hopped off the stage, aimed her weapon at Brit and Addison. “Get up.”
They stood.
An unexpected serenity washed over Brit. She had every reason to be terrified, only she wasn’t. When she glanced at Addison, determination had her sister’s jaw set in a hard line, her attention squarely on Honor.
“Walk toward the door in the back of the room,” Honor said.
Jordan joined Honor, his gun directed at them. She and Addison made their way past the rows and rows of followers. Brit pushed open the door, entered the quiet hallway, hoping to see Rebel, Hawk, and the rest of the rescue team waiting with guns drawn.
But they were alone.
Her heart dropped, then she drew in a deep breath.
We can do this.
“Stop,” Honor said.
They did.
Honor pulled a chair from a classroom and wedged it against the door so the cult members couldn’t escape.
That’s ironic. The victim becomes the abuser.
After Honor pulled two zip ties from her pocket, she said, “Hold out your wrists.”
“You don’t want to do this,” Addison said. “We’re your sisters.”
Jordan fired his weapon down the hallway—BANG!—before aiming at her. “Do it.”
With her ears ringing from the gunshot, Brit held out her hands.
Honor set down her Glock.
Take her down!
Brit dropped to the ground and swept her leg under Honor’s
“Aaaaiiiieeeee,” Honor shrieked as she fell backwards.
As Brit lunged for the Glock, Jordan grabbed Addison, put her in a choke hold and aimed his rifle at her head. Brit flicked her focus on her sister. Their entire lives flashed before her, and her heart cried out in excruciating pain.
“No!” Brit slid the Glock to Jordan, then stood and held out her wrists. “Don’t hurt her.”
Jordan released Addison, grabbed Brit by the scruff of her shirt. “You try that again, I’ll blow your guts wide open.”
Ohgod, my baby.
With hatred billowing from her eyes, Honor zip-tied Brit and Addison.
