“I’ll circle back with Providence. Let me walk you out.”
“Addison wanted to talk to me before I left.”
Cooper made a call. “Are you here? Can you meet Britain in the conference room?” He listened, then hung up.
Cooper escorted her to the conference room where he shook her hand. “I’ll be in touch.”
“Thank you for the interview, Cooper.”
Addison swung into view. “Did you put her through the paces?” she asked after pulling up alongside them.
“I did.” After saying goodbye, Cooper took off, vanishing around the corner.
Addison looped her arm through Brit’s, pulled her into the conference room, and shut the door.
“Are you mad at me?” Addison asked. “What do you think? Is this great or what?”
The sisters sat side-by-side at the conference table, huddled close together.
“Mad at you?” Brit asked. “Of course not, but Iamgonna need a few hours—or days—to process this. I’m a little miffed at Dad. How areyounot angry with him? Are you a financial consultant?” Brit downed the rest of her water, then smiled. “That’s your cover, isn’t it?”
“There are two people I never, ever get angry with,” Addison said. “You and Daddy. We’ve been through so much together. Gotta admit, when he told me he’d arranged an interview for you here, I was surprised.”
“I’ll bet,” Brit said.
“Being an artist is a great cover.”
Brit tucked her hair behind her ear. “It just doesn’t pay the bills. Plus, I loved my other job. You being a financial analyst never made sense to me.”
“Iwasan analyst with the CIA, which is why I lived in the Middle East. When I got back, Daddy got me an interview here. I’ve been an Op for a few years. It’sthebest job.”
“Did you know I was with DEA?” Brit asked.
“Not until yesterday,” Addison explained. “Dad told me you’d been with DEA, and that you had another assignment. He said that something went down and you quit.”
“I hope I get this job.” Then, the reality of the situation kicked in. “I’ll have to move.”
“You can stay with us until you find a place. Dad still has his condo in Arlington, but you should check with him. I’m just happy and relieved there are no more secrets.” She hugged Brit. “Do you have any questions about the position?”
“If I do, I can ask you later.” Then, she stilled. “Does Hawk know what you really do?”
“Yes.”
“He’s not an Operative too is he?”
Addison rose. “Like your job for Dad, everything is on a need-to-know basis.”
With a smile, Brit pushed out of the chair. “Gotcha.”
She already knew the answer, which made her wonder who else in their close circle of friends was too.
As Addison walked her out, Brit asked for Providence and Cooper’s email addresses.
“Their cover is Luck Marketing, so you can email them there. Be discreet.”
Brit barked out a laugh. “No worries there. I’ve been a sniper for over a year and you had no idea.”
Addison’s mouth dropped open. “No way.”
