“She’s…” Brit wasn’t sure how to play this one. She hadn’t even worked there a week.
“Bossy,” Slash said.
“I’ll talk to Cooper,” Providence said. “Slash, you just got assigned to a special project, didn’t you?”
Slash nodded. “I would love to mentor Brit though.”
“I’ll see what I can do,” Providence replied. “Have a good weekend.”
Providence left, and Brit packed up. “Are you staying?” she asked Slash.
“I’ve got a ton of work,” Slash said.
Brit shouldered her computer bag, wished Slash a good weekend, and left. On the way out, she checked her texts.
Her heart leapt when she saw Rebel had texted her.
“No way,” she murmured. Then, she read the text.
Wow.
She read his final text.
He’s daring me.
A frisson of desire charged through her. Her heart skipped a beat, her insides came alive with desire. Then, reality rained down on her.
Who goes undercover and doesn’t work with anyone, not even his handler? I was a lone wolf. He’s a damn wild card.
Despite all logic, she found his independent streak and rebellious behavior wildly attractive. Those qualities, paired with his confidence, laid-back attitude, and strikingly good looks were a powerful aphrodisiac.
Energy surged through her.
Do it.
“I’m accepting your dare so you can show me how sorry you are,” she texted him back.
Her lips curved in a smile while her insides surged in anticipation.
She downloaded the Asylum app. Lifetime memberships cost forty grand.
Holy hell.
She changed the temporary PW, then went searching for him. First, under Rebel. No hits. Then under his name. Nothing.
Then, she remembered him telling her that he didn’t play at his club. Her phone buzzed with a text from him, and excitement shot through her.
“I’ll start with groveling,” he texted. “My face between your legs.”
Blood whooshed through her at a maddening speed.
“Another all-nighter,” he texted.
I can’t wait.
That evening,Britain held her phone under the scanner at Asylum. The light turned green, the host cleared her to enter.
On her way down the dark hallway, the pulsing pop tune pounded through her. This was exactly where shewantedto be. Being with Rebel was where sheneededto be, but no way was she letting him know that.
