He ran his hand down her back. “That one’s more comfortable.”

“Thank you.” She eased down. “When we rode to Great Falls, I saw a two-door silver coupe?—”

“Ski mask,” he said.

She nodded. “I saw the vehicle today, near my house.”

Up went his eyebrows. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“This is the first chance I’ve had,” she said.

“Babe.” He pointed from her to him. “Partners.”

She nodded. “Point taken. Virginia tag ending in one-five.” She spun the laptop toward him. “Fifteen-thousand possible matches.”

“You’re being stalked,” he said. “Going forward, we stay together.”

“That’s unrealistic,” she pushed back. “I got this.”

Carrera opened his laptop. “Stryker was able to lift videos from surveillance cameras in G-ma’s neighborhood.”

“Now, we’re getting somewhere.” She slid close. “Show me whatcha got.”

A devilish smile filled his face. “I will as soon as we finish up here.”

“There’s my sexy motivation.”

Turning their attention to the videos, they reviewed them one by one. Most were cars returning home or heading out. There were videos of rabbits, deer, and even a family of foxes. But there wasn’t a single video of a person walking anywhere near Elsa’s home.

At ten o’clock, Luciano stopped by to say goodbye. They went back to watching videos. Elsa came in to say goodnight at eleven-thirty. They continued working until one in the morning with no luck.

“Are there more videos?” Slash asked.

“Yeah, a few,” Carrera replied.

“I gotta call it,” she said. “We’ll pick this up tomorrow night.”

In bed, she cuddled close. “I can’t believe I have no energy to love you.”

“You’re loving me right now,” he replied as he caressed her bare back.

As her eyes closed, the silver coupe flashed in her mind. Someone was watching her every damn move.

While she loved being independent, loved that she was fearless, she wasn’t stupid. If Carrera wanted to watch her six, maybe she shouldn’t be so quick to reject him.

“I like that you have my back,” she murmured.

“Always,” he replied as she drifted to sleep.
