Butler dropped.

“Rot in hell,” Luciano rasped.

Carrera rushed into the bathroom. A woman lay dead in the bathtub, soaking in her own blood. The stench from her rotting body made his stomach lurch.

Jesus.

He strode out, went in search of Luciano.

BANG! BANG!

POP! POP! POP! POP!

Carrera bolted into the bedroom, eyed the scene. Luciano stood over the bodies of a man and a woman, the gun still clutched in the dead woman’s hand.

They opened the closet, found two more bodies. They cleared the house again, this time checking the closets for corpses. In total, eight women had been lured there and slaughtered.

“What a fucking bloodbath,” Luciano bit out.

He pulled his burner, made a call. “Three killers, eight vics.” He hung up.

They exited through the back. As they made their way back to the black sedan, Carrera noticed lights on in two homes that had previously been dark.

“They heard the gunshots,” Luciano whispered.

They slid into the sedan. The second Carrera pulled the door closed, the driver took off. After they left the neighborhood, she turned on the headlights.

“I got grazed by a bullet,” Luciano murmured.

“Where?”

“Shoulder.”

In the dark car, they removed their helmets, stored them in their go-bags. Off came their gloves. They said nothing more on the ride back to the airport. Once the plane was airborne, Carrera asked to see Luciano’s wound.

“I’m fine,” his cousin pushed back.

Carrera went to the back of the plane, pulled the emergency kit off the wall. Back in his seat, he opened it. “Let’s just cover it, so you don’t bleed all over the white leather seat.”

That strategy worked.

Off came Luciano’s black shirt. Carrera cleaned the wound, put ointment on it, and covered it with a gauze patch.

“You gonna see someone about that?”

“I just did.”

“It could get infected,” Carrera said.

“You’ve been hanging around G-ma too much. I’ll douse it in whiskey.”

“I’d rather see a doc anddrinkthe booze. Are you talking about the whiskey you sell for a thousand, or the cognac you sell for ten?”

That made Luciano smile. He came from nothing. Dirt poor. Now, he had more money than God. But Carrera knew the truth about his older cousin. Even all the money in the world didn’t make him happy.

“Who was the couple?” Carrera asked after he put the med kit back.

“Butler’s sister and brother-in-law. I didn’t think they’d be there.”
