“I’m apologizing for being the biggest ass. My nameshouldbe Mr. Anus. I’m sorry for how I treated you. I was angry, I was immature, I was fucking stupid.”

She looked over at him. Even perspiring, he was still a stunning sight. When his gaze found hers, his beautiful brown eyes tugged and tugged and tugged. She wanted to press her sweaty body against his and slide all over him. For hours and hours.

Stop.

“We’re going to be working together,” he said. “If we get physical, I don’t want things to get awkward.”

There it is. We’re gonna be working together.

“Why would it?”

She would work this case, then return to ALPHA and to the BLACK OPS rescue team. There, she was valued and appreciated. There, she had friends who were family. There, no one would ever rip out her heart and shred it to bits.

Because the one person who had done that was right beside her, completely oblivious to how vulnerable she was to him. She’d never stopped loving him. She could date limitless men, but no one would ever hold claim to her heart.

Even all these years later, if she wasn’t careful to guard it, he’d wreck her all over again.

God, help me.
