“I’ve missed you,” he said.

She steeled her spine.

Go easy.

“Let’s talk about the case,” she said. “Specifically, this guy named Greg. I don’t know if he’s a regular, so I’m gonna ask the dancers about him.”

“We know he used a VIP room.”

She stabbed a cherry tomato with precision before popping the fruit in her mouth. “From what I can tell, the Management Only door leads to the private rooms. There’re no cameras in that hallway to hack into?—”

“You can hack?” Carrera asked.

“Basic stuff, but Danielle Fox, Cooper’s fiancée, is the bomb.”

“Same with Stryker.”

“If we can add a micro-camera in that hallway, we can monitor who goes in and out.”

All he heard wasin and out. His thoughts turned primal, a growl shot out of him before he could check himself.

She leaned back, pinned him with a steely gaze. “When was the last time you got laid?”

“It’s been a while,” he replied. “You?”

“An hour ago. I squeezed in a quickie after our run.”

He chuckled. “Nice.”

“I stopped hooking up years ago,” she said. “I haven’t had a boyfriend since college.” She sliced off a piece of meat. “What about you? I’m kinda surprised you’re not married with kids.”

“Why’s that?” he asked.

She shrugged. “I always thought we’d—you, I meanyou—would find someone and start a family.”

“I dated in college, but never got serious with anyone. Now, with the business and the undercover gigs, I work all the time.”

Tell her.

“The last person who mattered was you.”

“Yeah, right,” she said. “You haven’t had a meaningful relationship in fifteen years?”

“It is what it is,” he said.

Her gaze softened as they stared into each other’s eyes.

“I want to kiss you so damn badly,” he murmured.

“Carrera, this is work. That’s all.”

He felt that zing in his chest. But he wasn’t deterred.

He sliced off a piece of steak, chewed, and swallowed it down.

She’s right. This is work… until it isn’t just work.

“I can put a micro camera on the wall at the club,” he said.
