“My girl knew what she wanted when she came here,” he whispered in my ear, before he slid his fingers inside to feel the wetness within.

I made another noise involuntarily, and his free hand—the one not currently inside me—came up to cover my mouth. His hooded eyes met mine, and he could tell this slinking around and being made to stay quiet was only adding to my enjoyment. I cupped him through his boxer briefs, watching his eyes react as he held in his own groans of pleasure.

It was a game we were both enjoying.

I pushed his shoulders, silently instructing him to lay back on the bed. I loved how he made room for me to take charge, giving me a confidence I hadn’t experienced in relationships before.

We both shed the last scraps of fabric separating us. I straddled his hips and knew we were both more than ready. I paused while he reached into his nightstand and pulled out the foil packet, efficiently ripping it and sliding it over his length. I slowly lowered myself onto him, crushing my mouth to his so hecould catch all my noises as my body stretched to accommodate him.

Being fused to him felt wholly right. He took my hands in his and interlaced our fingers, his rapt attention on me while I continued to ride out my pleasure.

“I’ve been dreaming of this, baby,” he whispered, his eyes locked with mine. “And still, it’s better than I remembered. I need you Brooke,” he rasped, his voice between praising and pleading. “I love you—so much.”

“I love you,” I whispered back. I bit my lip and rode him, ecstasy cresting inside me as our bodies increased their friction. I pressed my body flush against his, and his hand found my hip, gripping tightly. The added pressure spurred me on.

“Come for me, beautiful,” he pleaded in a whisper. I could see in his eyes that he was at the end of his tether.

Moments later we came crashing down together, eyes locked, souls entwined.

“I wantto drive you back to the hotel.” Clothes back on, we kissed gently at the doorway of the house.

I shook my head. “It isn’t that far. I’ll be fine.”

“I wish—” he began.

I put my fingers to his lips. “I know. But this was perfect.” I went up on my tiptoes and placed one more kiss against his lips. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

He nodded. “Text me when you make it to the room,” he insisted.

“I will.” I stepped from the doorway, but his hand clutched mine, pulling me back against him.

“I love you.” I loved how serious his usually-playful face turned when he uttered those words to me.

“I love you more,” I replied.

“Not possible.” He released my hand and watched me walk to my car.

Whit,Ivy, my mom, and I spent Christmas morning in Owen’s apartment, which was situated right above the cafe. Even though it was a rare day off from the cafe for Owen, he whipped us up some breakfast.

Cade joined us after breakfast. He pulled off his coat, and I drank in the way his navy blue henley clung to his chest and arms. He leaned down to kiss my cheek.

“Merry Christmas.”

“Merry Christmas to you.”

Our eyes twinkled, both clearly thinking of our shared secret encounter from the previous night.

Cade settled onto the couch, and Ivy crawled to him, pulling at his jeans’ leg to try to raise herself up. He leaned down and lifted her, holding her against his chest.

“And Merry first Christmas, Miss Ivy Jane.” He blew a raspberry on her cheek, and she threw her head back and giggled joyously.

My heart throbbed painfully in my chest.

“She’s getting so spoiled having all these arms to hold her,” Whit called from the kitchen. “You’re all invited to her first birthday, by the way. We’ll host it at the duplex.”

“Oh, how lovely,” my mom spoke up, seeming genuinely pleased to be included.

“Thanks for the invite. I’ll have to see if I can get away,” Owen chimed in.
