Lyra fell into a fast rhythm, bobbing her head as she sucked Theo down like her last meal. Her hands crawled up from his thighs to his abdomen, leaving criss crossing red marks where her nails scratched the skin, until she settled on gripping his thighs. Theo’s hips were moving erratically beneath her as his muscles tensed. She could tell he was close. She didn’t want this to end. Lyra relished the way her mind went silent, the pleasant weight of him on her tongue. Her senses were overwhelmed with nothing but Theo.

Theo had never known bliss like this before; he was nearly certain. He surrendered himself to Lyra, trying and failing to keep his hips from thrusting up into her mouth. Every time Lyra’s cheeks hollowed out, he nearly finished.

He’d never seen anything in his life as devastatingly sexy as Lyra; her plump lips sealed around his cock, her eyes looking up to him and refusing to turn away.

“Lyra,” Theo choked out, his voice sounding desperate and wrecked. “I-I’m close.”

He tugged on her hair, trying to give her an ample warning if she wanted to pull off him. Lyra only dug her nails into Theo, taking him down even deeper, until he was completely buried inside her throat. He couldn’t even make a noise, the very oxygen pulled out of his lungs as he was completely enveloped in her.

Lyra made a satisfied moaning noise, and the vibrations sent Theo flying over the edge. The orgasm that had been building at the base of his spine detonated, exploding outward with a force that nearly choked him and stole his vision. Theo saw stars, his body overwhelmed with pleasure, everything in him obliterated and now rebuilding itself around one woman: Lyra.

If this was how a siren brought her prey to their deaths, Theo wanted his family to know he died a happy man.

Lyra swallowed Theo’s release, refusing to let a single drop go to waste. Only when his body relaxed underneath hers, deflating like a balloon, did she slowly pull off him. She sucked a little bit more for good measure, taking devious pleasure in the pained whine she elicited from Theo. Lyra finally released him and sucked in a full breath of air, her heartbeat racing as she studied Theo’s spent body in the sand.

“Come here,” Theo mumbled after a few seconds. His eyes were closed but he held his arm out, indicating for her to curl up next to him. “You’re next.”

Lyra laughed at that but accepted his invitation, sliding her body next to his until her head was on his chest. Theo was glistening with sweat, his heartbeat still pounding. There was zero chance he wasn’t going to fall asleep in the next five minutes, but Lyra didn’t mind. Theo seemed to sense this and forced his eyes open.

“No, I swear, just give me a second?—”

Lyra sat up with a jolt. Her whole body tensing as she turned towards the water.

“Theo, shut up.”

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

The last of Theo's post orgasmic bliss vanished. Lyra shoved him further up the bank in an impressive display of strength for her wiry form, her teeth elongating as she hissed in the direction of the water.

Theo couldn't make out what Lyra was looking at, but he didn't ask questions. He scrambled up the bank, his fingers and feet digging into the sand as a horrid screech echoed through the night air.

It sent chills down Theo's spine, and he froze, turning his head back towards the water despite his fear. Whatever it was, it was out for blood, and Lyra had gone to meet it head-on.

“Lyra!” Theo screamed, making his way back towards the river. No part of Theo thought himself a better fighter than Lyra; he was inclined to listen to her when she said to run, but the thought of her alone, fighting whatever it was that had crawled out of the depths yet again, didn't sit right with him. Not when he could still feel the warmth of her body against his.

He got as close to the water as he dared, where everything was obscured by splashing waves and churning water. Theo caught quick glimpses of Lyra’s tail peeking from the water, or a gaping jaw, but none of the images made sense to him.

As quickly as it started, the chaos stopped, and the god-awful screeching ceased. Lyra broke the surface of the water, her wet hair hanging partially over one eye. She smiled at Theo enthusiastically and with a warmth he had yet to see on her face. He couldn't place it, but instead of feeling accepted and excited by the mirth on Lyra’s expression, it was wrong.

A deep sense of unease settled in Theo's stomach, and he took a step back from Lyra as she started to walk out of the waves.

Lyra noticed his retreat, and her face contorted again, now into a desperate pout, and she lifted her arms out towards Theo.

“Theo,” she purred, her voice sounding melodic as a song, “Do you not want me now? Are your attentions so fickle?”

Theo would be lying if he said he was entirely unmoved by the plea, but it seemed so entirely out of character that he couldn't be sure. He'd seen Lyra fight enough already to know she wasn't going to come out of the water emotional and weeping for comfort. Not that he would blame her if she did.

“Lyra…” Theo took a step back, and then another, debating turning around and running for the treeline.

“You insolent little prince!” Lyra snapped her teeth in Theo's direction, swiping at him with an outstretched hand.

The second Theo decided he was going to turn and run, a sudden commotion broke out as another shape jumped out of the water, tackling Lyra beneath the waves.

“Fuck.” Theo hissed, still too afraid to make a decision. He knew it was better to do what Lyra said and run, but he had been running his entire life. Would his absence, instead of his actions, define all of the penultimate moments in his life?

His thought process was cut short when two bodies emerged from the water, locked in a vicious vice grip. It took Theo a moment to realize what he was seeing because both of the bodies looked like Lyra.

“Kelpies.” Theo hissed in realization, his fear compounding at the thought of Lyra struggling with a kelpie in the water.
