His eye closed.
“Bad?”
“What?”
“What happened to me.”
I chose accuracy.
“Your brain shut down under stress.”
He lay still.
“Like before?”
“Different.”
“Did I lose anything?”
“Not that we know.”
He opened his eye and looked at me.
“You.”
“You knew me.”
“Now.”
“When you woke.”
A faint line appeared between his brows.
“I didn’t at first.”
“You were still coming out of medication.”
“I saw your face.”
My throat tightened.
“Didn’t know the word.”
“Which word?”
“Home.”
I touched his cheek.
“That’s all right.”
He turned his face into my palm.
“Scared you.”
“Yes.”
“Sorry.”
