Her flashing blue eyes narrowed. “Why? My father is gone. And the longer I wait, the farther away his murderer gets.”
Landyn nodded. “At the very least, you should eat.” He flagged down a passing knight. “Please see Raven to the kitchens.”
“What are you going to do?” she asked suspiciously.
“I have responsibilities,” he said.
Her eyes slitted as if she didn’t believe him, but she nodded. “I thank you for your help with my father. I’m certain you were a good friend to him.”
As she turned away, confusion settled around him. It sounded as if she was saying goodbye, but his mission was not over. “Raven,” he called. When she paused and spun to him, he continued, “I will see you after John’s burial.”
She concurred and followed the monk.
He watched her walk away, the gentle shift of her hips, her curvy bottom and wondered if she knew her bottom swayed with each step. He mentally shook himself. She was an unforeseen problem. He had not expected John to task him with her safety. Still, there were things he needed to do here. Then, he would find her and…
And what? What was he to do with her? She was stubborn, determined, and bent on a path of destruction. And yet, she was vulnerable. She was unlike any woman he had encountered before.
The problem was, part of him understood her need for revenge. Although it had taken him a long time to heal, there was a part of him that still wanted that revenge.
There was only one place to go. One thing to do to cleanse himself of these feelings.
