Sage nodded and continued toward the inn.

Willow watched her sister for a moment. She wouldn’t tell her father. She might tell Raven...

“I can bind my injury,” Christian claimed.

“Is that the thanks I get for saving you?” Willow wondered. “You were always poor with showing emotions.” She began to walk toward the stables. She didn’t really care if he followed or not because she needed to see to her wound.

He hurried after her. “Thanks? You should be thanking me!”

“Because I showed up to save you?” she asked sarcastically.

“No. No! For wanting to leave. That man you let go will return with others, searching for me. The sooner I go, the better for you.”

“Is that what you tell yourself?”

He seized her arm as she reached the stables. “This isn’t a game, Willow.”

“I can take care of myself,” she proclaimed.

“You don’t know men like these. They don’t act honorably.”

Willow chuckled. “You think the type of men I’ve met have acted honorably?”

“You know what I mean. These men will stop at nothing to find me.”

“Maybe I should hand you over.” Even though she would never do it, she enjoyed the astonishment that crossed his face. She was angry, hurt, and disappointed at his lack of gratitude and unhappiness at seeing her.

He dropped his hand, startled.

She turned and continued into the darkness where her horse was stabled, clenching her fists. “Is there a reward?”
