“Your father will protect you.” He started searching the ground as she had done. “I’ll go after Marcus and Sage.”
Willow’s jaw stiffened in outrage. “You’re trying to get rid of me.”
He turned to her. “I’m trying to keep you safe.”
“I’m going with you. I’ll send word to Raven and Father.”
He began to shake his head.
She stepped toward him with determination. “I started this. I’m not going back without Sage.” And she meant it. Willow could do it with his help, but she would do it without his help, too. Sage was her sister, and she was in danger. She would not leave her.
Christian took a deep breath. “I warned you not to get involved.”
“I know,” she said softly. She bowed her head and puffed her lip out slightly. “And I was wrong taking the book. I didn’t realize Sage would be…or Brother Nicolas.” She swallowed the overwhelming guilt and lifted her chin defiantly. “I have to do what’s right. I have to find Sage.”
Christian stared at her, assessing.
She kept her chin lifted in resolution. Shewasgoing.
He hesitated, and his jaw clenched. “All right. We’ll get Sage, but I get the book.”
