His eyes snap down to the phone as he frowns, but there’s worry in his eyes. “How’s Em? Are the babies already here?” he rushes out.
I shake my head, a little hurt that he practically didn’t acknowledge me. “No, but her contractions are intense and she’s seven centimeters dilated. The doctor said she needs to be at ten.”
Emma screams in the background, and I see the panic filling his eyes. “Pass me to her,” he orders.
I hold the phone up in front of Emma who’s wiggling on the bed, trying to find a way to ease the pain. “Greyson, where are you? Why aren’t you here yet?”
“I’m sorry, baby. There was a problem at the airport, and they wouldn’t let us off the plane. But I’m on my way now, okay? Everything’s going to be fine.”
“I can’t do this without you, Wolf,” She cries as tears fall from her eyes.
“You won’t, Bunny. I promise. I’m coming, just hang in there a little longer for me.”
She sobs louder. “Okay…”
They stay on the phone the whole trip over, and once he’s in the parking lot, he tells her he’s on his way up and hangs up. A few minutes later, the door to the room bursts open and Greyson rushes to her side.
“I’m here, Bunny. I’m here.” He kisses her sweaty forehead. “Now let’s have our boys.”
I step back as my mother comes to my side. Greyson looks over at us with that frown back in place when his gaze falls on mine. “You can leave now… Thank you.”
I can tell that thank you was forced, but I don’t call him out on it. Instead, I let the sting of his words fill my heart as I turn and let my mother walk us out of the room, leaving Em with Greyson and Lance at her side.
When we make it back to the waiting room, I find Shane talking with Lionel as they stand off to the side of the room. My need for comfort takes hold of me and I rush over to him before losing the battle on my emotions. His arms open just in time to catch me as my arms and legs wrap around him, his hand quickly cradling the back of my head with his other on my butt.
“Angel?”
“Please just hold me.” My voice breaks as tears form in my eyes.
His hold on my tightens. “I’ve got you, sweetheart. I’ve got you.”
“I swear, I don’t care if that man is having babies right now. If he doesn’t pull his head out of his ass soon, I’m going to rip it out myself and it won’t be pretty,” I hear Ronnie mutter behind us, and it makes a small smile spread on my lips.
After a few minutes, I can tell Shane is starting to get uncomfortable with how stiff his body is getting, so I unwrap myself from him and lower to the ground. I smile reassuringly at him as I take his hand and sit us down near our friends.
Lionel, being done with his duties for the time being, wishes us all goodbye and leaves. I bring my thumbnail to my lips and chew on the end as my stomach rumbles silently, claiming to be hungry… again.
I’m now past the first trimester, just hitting the thirteen-week mark, and I’ve started getting a tiny, tiny belly. Shane has been in heaven ever since it appeared and kisses my stomach every chance he gets. I think it just looks like I’m bloated or ate too much, but he thinks it’s beautiful.
Shane takes my wrist, pulling my thumb away from my mouth and smirks. “Are you hungry?” This man always knows everything.
I smile as a blush creeps up my cheeks and nod.
“I could get you something at the cafeteria if you want?” Ronnie offers from her seat across from us.
“No need, I have what she wants.” Shane smiles at Ronnie as he pulls a baggy filled with Froot Loops out of his man purse, then opens the bag and hands it to me.
“How did you get those?” I frown, munching away on my snack.
“I always have some on me, just in case. I know these are what you crave right now.” He leans in and pecks my cheek, making me blush a little more.
“And what if I start craving watermelon?” I joke.
“Then I’ll start carrying a watermelon around with me everywhere I go.” He winks and pulls away as I shake my head at his ridiculousness. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if he did that. Shane is just that way. He attends to all my needs and I love him for it.
“Jesus, he carries a bag of cereal with him just in case she gets hungry. Cereal! Can he get any more perfect?” Ronnie mutters, looking completely baffled.
“I’ll carry a bag of cereal for you if you want, Vixen.” Gabe leans into her and nips her ear.
