“Wonderful. So, when are you seeing her next?”
I frown, realizing I hadn’t thought that far ahead. “I’m not sure. We didn’t exactly make plans.”
“Well, I do still have that date I acquired for the both of you,” he says, his fingers tapping away on a keyboard. This guy is always working.
“That’s true, maybe I could take her out somewhere, but we still have the problem with her brother.” I sigh. Now I’m the one who’s irritated. Why is it that when I finally meet the woman of my dreams, it has to be under complicated circumstances like this?
“Ah, right. The one marrying the redhead.”
I frown. “You know their names, Jules.”
“I do, I simply choose not to use them.”
“You are a cruel human.” I laugh.
“And yet in the past twenty-eight years, I still have not managed to get rid of you.” He chuckles in return.
“And you never will.” I find myself smiling as the gates to my home open, letting me onto the premises.
“Well, if that will be all, I would like to return to my work.”
This guy. No wonder people don’t understand why we’re friends.
“Yeah, that’s it. Thanks for accepting the call.” I park behind the first out of four garage doors.
“As if I had a choice,” he mutters before sighing. “Shane, just date the girl. Her brother will deal with it. It is not about him; it is about you and Aubrey.”
“Thanks, man.”
“Anytime.” He goes silent for a moment, and I’m about to hang up just as he speaks once more. “Oh, and one more thing, Jefferson.”
“Yeah?”
“Call me Jules one more time and I will make you disappear and steal your girl.”
I bark out a laugh as he hangs up.
He’s always hated that nickname, but we use it whenever we can just to get on his nerves. Julian is someone who’s always in control, so watching him lose his cool over a name is completely worth it. And every time it ends in the same way, with him threatening to make us disappear. Although it’s always said as a joke, and the part about my Angel better be too.
AUBREY
Stepping into my condo, I set my keys and purse down on the kitchen island and head to the fridge for a water bottle. After a kiss like that and the way I’m feeling all wound up, I desperately need to quench this thirst in a different way.
I’m just closing the fridge when the front door to my condo flies open, and in come people I didn’t expect to see this late at night, or today at all, for that matter.
“OH MY GOD!!!” Veronica screams the moment she steps foot inside, followed by her two hockey player boyfriends.Yes, two.Noah Adler and Gabriel Ellis.
“Ronnie? What are you doing here?” I blink as she rushes to me, grabbing my water bottle from my hand and setting it down.
“Tell me everything! How was it? Are his lips as soft as they look? Because they really do look soft. And how does his mouth taste? Was it everything you dreamed it would be?” She grabs both my arms and shakes me a little before wrapping hers around me and squeezing tight. “Holy shit! I can’t believe you just had your first kissandwith the man of your dreams!”
I flush a dark shade of red, now realizing that they were probably parked outside when everything between me and Shane happened. Which means... They saw us kiss.
Veronica pulls away and looks me over. “Oh, even her lips look swollen. Don’t they look swollen, boys?”
“They do.” Noah chuckles as he comes over to hug me and kiss my forehead. “Hey, princess.”
My blush goes from red to a light pink at the brotherly affection he always gives me. “Hi, Noah. How are you?” I ask, concerned about his wound to the abdomen that happened six weeks ago.
