She shook her head. “Only for a short time. He and Dad…I guess are friends.”

“Well, I mean, they’d have to be pretty good friends if he’s coming all the way to Koby Plains. The nearest motel is thirty minutes away.”

She scratched her nose, and I clocked her avoidant expression a mile away. She was definitely hiding something. “Luce–”

“How about you?” She suddenly asked. “Bringing anyone?”

“Yeah, Cass is coming, and of course Jordy will be following her like a puppy dog. Oh, and do you remember Jack? He’s coming, too.”

Lucy moved to lie on her stomach, propping her chin on her palm, feet kicking up behind her. “What’s happening there? Are you two–”

The door swung open, banging against the wall. My breath caught and my eyes widened as Michael stormed into view.

Lucy scrambled to sit up. “Jesus, Dad! What the hell?”

God, why did he have to look so good? He had that dark scruff on his jaw that I adored so much. I could still recall what it felt like to have that stubble scrap along my thighs. And, although it was clear he looked a little tired, he’d never looked hotter with his clenched fists and a crazed look in his eye.

He tore his gaze away from mine. “Lucy, do you mind swinging to the store to grab some milk and bread? We ran out, and I have some work to do.”

Lucy, who hated driving, immediately jumped up. “Sure. Of course. I–I have to get some new shoes for the party so I’ll be a little late.”

Her dad glared down at her, and there seemed to be some sort of silent communication happening between them before he sighed in defeat. “Fine.”

Lucy turned back to me, but my focus was still on Michael. His eyes expressed the depths of his feelings. I could feel the electric sizzle between us, despite our physical distance.

Luckily, Lucy didn’t seem to notice. “Sorry, Dee. I’m gonna head out before it gets too late. I’ll call you when I get back, okay?”

She sounded eager to get off the phone, so I forced a smile. “Sure thing. Talk later.”

The screen went dark, and I flung myself back on my bed. The house was quiet. My mom had gone out to run some obscure errand and wouldn’t be back until late. She had also been quite mysterious lately, and I kind of suspected she was hiding a secret boyfriend. Either that or she was having some sordid affair. I didn’t really care, as long as she was happy. She’d sacrificed a lot to raise me alone. She was still relatively young at forty-two and looked a lot younger than her years. I was surprised that she hadn’t had at least a couple of boyfriends—although it was slim pickings in our town.

Thank goodness she was never attracted to Michael, and vice versa. Considering my crush on him began in adolescence, it would have been extremely painful for me. I couldn’t even bear to think about it.

Michael.

I was still very angry with him, but I couldn’t help my heart from skipping a beat when I saw him through my phone. My pussy also remembered what it felt like to be with him, considering it pulsed and grew wetter just from hearing his voice.

The sound of my phone ringing pierced the quiet, and I jumped in fright. Grabbing it, I saw Michael’s name flash up. I thought about ignoring it, but my fingers couldn’t help themselves.

“What do you want?”

There was silence from down the line. But I could sense his agonized presence, could almost see his long fingers tighten on his phone.

“Dina…” His deep, rough voice was etched in torture.

Good. It served him right. Heshouldbe riddled with guilt over what he put me through.

I crossed my legs, attempting to ignore my increasingly damp panties “Why are you calling me?”

His shaky breath rattled through the speakers. “I miss you.”

I scoffed. “Missed me so much that you left me in your bed, naked, and never called me again. Never answered my calls or texts.”

“Please…I'm sorry, Dina. I’m a fool. An absolute fool. If you knew why I did what I did…”

I sat up. “Then tell me,” I pleaded.

“I can’t. It’s not for me to share.”
