Eric lowered his mouth to her ear. “Ask me to stay.”

She wanted to. Really wanted to. There wasn’t a single good reason why she shouldn’t.

Except for the suspicious noises coming from his pants.

Bree pulled back. “You need to take care of that.”

He refused to let her go. He fished his phone out of his pocket. “Parker.”

If she let him stay, there would be no turning back. Not that she wanted to, but it meant fully letting him back into her life again. Until this moment, she hadn’t realized she was willing to take that risk.

This was different from the call he’d received from Adam. Eric stood straighter the longer the call progressed. “Yes. Got it.” He ended the call, then dropped his forehead back to hers. “I have to go.”

“I know,” she whispered back.

“Would you have let me stay?”

Bree nodded, not willing to trust her voice.

“Good, because this is the only thing that could take me away from you.”

“Was somebody killed?”

He nodded. “Somebody spotted a floater in the Red by the university.”

Eric captured her lips one more time before he stepped back. “I need to go. I’ll see you tomorrow. We’ll pick it up right here.”

Bree wasn’t certain if she was ready for that. But she was willing to find out.
