It was already inappropriate for her to be here alone with him, even less with him assaulting her.
“Then we should go where no one can see us.” Amelia adjusted his shirt and jacket.
Her fingertips brushing his skin sent sparks of pleasure through him.
A wayward lock tumbled over her slender neck, and he tucked the rebellious tress behind her ear. “I can hide for a while. I can’t disappear completely.”
“Later, then.” She pressed a soft kiss on his lips that made him crave for more, for more contact with her silky skin. More time, more everything.
Hurried footsteps heralded the arrival of someone. Christopher sprang to his feet and shielded Amelia from view.
She stood up. “What—”
Cowasj strode towards them, a piece of paper crumpled in his hand. He came to an abrupt stop in front of them. “Lyons, I’m sorry to disturb.” He glanced at Amelia and gave a quick bow of his head. “But I have news from the Pinkerton man I hired.”
Worry burned the back of Christopher’s throat. “Amelia, will you excuse me?”
Her face paled, and a tremor rippled through her bottom lip. “I hope it’s not bad news.”
He was afraid it was. He took her hand and kissed the knuckles. Not in a gentlemanly way though. He thoroughly pressed his lips on her hand and didn’t give a damn if Cowasj was watching. “Enjoy the ball.”
Christopher headed towards the mansion with Amelia’s sweet taste lingering in his mouth.
