OCTOBER 20th
LANDON: I feel terrible saying this, but I can’t wait to get out of the house. Been a bit dicey around here, will explain. Denver can’t come soon enough—tell me you’ll grab a beer with me as soon as your plane lands.
OLIVIA: We’ll make it fun! Help you forget, for a little while.
OCTOBER 29th
LANDON: Thanks for listening at lunch the other day. It made me feel so much better to get it all out and then feel like myself for a minute. Rose can’t enjoy anything like she used to, and I don’t know how to help her. It’s driving me crazy.
OLIVIA: You’re trying your best. She is so lucky to have a partner like you.
LANDON: It doesn’t feel that way. I feel like such a failure.
OLIVIA: That’s why you need friends. To remind you how spectacular you are. You really are, Landon. I mean it.
NOVEMBER 12th
LANDON: Hey, are you awake? Need someone to talk to.
OLIVIA: I was just laying here, hoping you’d message.
LANDON: She did it again. Completely cut me out just when I thought maybe things were going back to normal.
OLIVIA: It’s not fair to you.
LANDON: Sometimes I just want to explode but I know it wouldn’t help anything.
OLIVIA: Stop worrying about everybody’s feelings but your own. You matter, too.
LANDON: She’s really hurting. She’s in such a bad way and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but I know that it’s making it worse.
OLIVIA: You might consider, just for a moment, that it’s not you that’s the problem here.
DECEMBER 10th
LANDON: I know I could have gotten away with sitting this trip out, but I need a break.
OLIVIA: You never put yourself first. You deserve it.
LANDON: I’m not sure Rose will even notice I’m gone. I swear, sometimes it’s like I’m not even here.
OLIVIA: Well, I will certainly notice that you’re here. You’re saving me from sitting through Dean’s endless war stories on my own.
LANDON: Happy to be needed.
OLIVIA: I hope I’m not the first person to say this to you, but it feels like you and Rose are drifting apart. I’m sorry to be blunt, but we’ve been dancing around this for ages.
LANDON: What are you saying?
OLIVIA: I mean, there has to be some part of you that’s thought about divorce. Even if it’s just a small part.
LANDON: I don’t think that’s something I should be talking about with you.
OLIVIA: All I’m saying is that in all the time we’ve known each other, I couldn’t name more than three positive things you’ve said about the woman.
LANDON: Well that’s rather bleak.
OLIVIA: Exactly.
