“I’m in this for as long as you guys want me. If you don’t get sick of me, that is,” he whispers back.
“I don’t think I could ever get sick of you, but it’s not just you; it’s Maverick too. How do I know he’s going to be different this time?” I ask him.
“That’s the chance you are going to have to take. Think about everything he’s doing to show you that he’s going to do whatever it takes to keep you happy this time. He’s different now that he’s not hiding any secrets from you,” he says.
“That’s true. He looks like he no longer has the world on his shoulders. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him so free,” I say.
“It’s up to you if you are willing to take that risk and trust him with your heart again. I hope that, one day, you can trust me with it too,” he rasps.
“I hope so too,” I say softly.
I give him a small smile before we make our way into the house.
Maverick is sitting on the couch watching TV. He looks over when we walk in and smiles widely at us. “How was the date?”
“Amazing,” I say with a smile while moving to sit on his lap.
“I’m glad. I have a surprise for you both,” he says, looking a little nervous.
“What is it?” I ask excitedly. I love surprises.
“Follow me,” he says and helps me off his lap.
We follow him into a room that has never been used. What does he have going on in there?
A gasp escapes me when I look into the room.
A nursery.
Tears well in my eyes as I step inside and take in the crib, rocking chair, and changing table. There are even clothes and diapers set up in it already.
The walls are painted a light yellow, and there is a sign with the club’s logo on it.
There’s even a stuffed Harley in the crib.
I didn’t let myself imagine what our baby’s room would look like.
This is everything and so much more.
“So, what do you think?” Maverick asks nervously.
I turn to him and Ice, and find Ice grinning while looking around the room.
“You did good,” Ice says before slapping him on the back.
“Ana?” Maverick asks hesitantly when he sees the tears in my eyes.
“It’s perfect,” I whisper before running into his arms.
He picks me up and kisses me softly.
“I had Axe help me build the furniture today while you guys were on your date,” he tells us.
“Thank you,” I whisper into his neck as the tears start falling.
“What’s with the water works?” Ice asks, coming up behind me and wrapping his arms around the both of us.
“Probably hormones. The book says it could happen, but I didn’t really feel any until now,” I say with a laugh.
