I nod my head.

He lets out a long breath. “When I chose my daughters for my sons, it wasn’t an easy task. When I found souls that would match my sons, they all came damaged. I just knew my sons and daughters would match each other and be what each other need. You guys will complete each other in ways that people only dream of up top.”

“I know that, dad. I’m not upset that she’s my bride. I’m upset about what she has been through. She has been on the run for eleven years. She hasn’t had safety and security in so long. Her family was taken away from her and, by some twist of teenage rebellion, she survived. I don’t understand who was after her family and why, and I feel like I will not rest until I know,” I tell him before taking a long drink.

“I do not know the how or why, but I have been trying to find out. The only thing I have figured out is that it had to have been a supernatural being doing these things to her and her family. Otherwise, I would know all the answers by now,” he says, looking troubled.

“She said she heard a voice telling her not to give up. That was you, wasn’t it?” I ask.

He nods his head.

“I matched your bride’s soul to you, but that soul has seen many lifetimes. This time, when her soul wanted to give up, I knew this was the last lifetime you would have a chance to form your bond. Her soul has been looking for you for centuries, but you were never quite ready for it.”

“How did you know I was now?” I ask.

“I saw the look of loneliness and boredom in you. I could tell you wanted someone to share your life with. Your brothers too. A few of them might not see it now, but all of my sons have been waiting to have that one person who will stand by their side, never judge them, and love them unconditionally. You guys just never knew it was an option because everyone you come into contact with is affected by your sin,” he tells me.

“How do I help her through this?” I ask with a sigh.

“You will figure it out. You will learn what she needs and wants. You just have to remember not to push her before she’s ready.”

I look at him in shock. “Of course I wouldn’t push her for that. We won’t be intimate until she’s ready. I don’t care how long it takes.”

“That’s a good answer, son,” he says with a nod.

“Go back to your bride. She’s safe in the family home. Nothing can touch her here, and we will have time to figure everything else out,” he says, shooing me out of the common room.

I hope it doesn’t take long to find the fucker who hurt my bride.

He’s going to regret causing her any kind of pain.

Chapter Seven

Serenity

Days pass rather quickly down here.

Everyone has been pretty busy, even Silas, but I have no idea what they even do for work. I just wander the house, hoping to find secret passages or something interesting. This is literally Lucifer’s house; how can there not be some crazy secret to uncover?

I had been told it was best not to leave since the house is protected, and the only people allowed in are people that they trust.

I sit in what I now know is the main common room and think of what I could do to pass the time. If they are going to leave me alone all day, then I need something to do.

An evil smile comes over my face when I finally think of what I could do.

It’s their fault for leaving me alone so much.

I get to work on setting traps around the place. It’s so big; there are so many places to choose from.

I’m under the dining room table when I see a set of feet come into my view. When I look up, I see Lucifer staring down at me. I swallow hard.

It’s just Lucifer. Nothing to be scared of, Serenity. Be cool.

I casually crawl from under the table and get up like I wasn’t doing anything weird.

“Sup?” I say with a nod to him. Mentally, I face palm myself. Really… ‘sup?’ That’s the best you can come up with to your father in-law?

A smirk appears on his face.
