“So, we should live in a house as opposed to an apartment? If we are going to be this awesome parenting duo, shouldn’t we be able to figure out how to do it in our own homes?”

She’s got a point.

“One day we will, but in the beginning, let’s do this together.”

She shakes her head.

“You think that because you had one dinner with my family and they agreed with you that we should move in together, that I should just do it.”

“They want what’s best for you. So do I.”

“Like you know what that is?”

I can’t help but smile. I’ve missed the sassy mouth on her more than I care to admit. She’s so quick all the time. I have to be on my game with her.

“What? Why are you smiling?”

I hold up my hands in surrender.

“You’re just very passionate about the two of us not living together.”

“Well, I don’t know you.”

“Yes, you do, Syd.”

“I know you have to have a penandpencil in class. That you hate those big zip binders, and you like to buy highlighters even if you aren’t going to use them to take notes, butknowyou know you in a home setting—no, I don’t.”

“You could if we lived together.”

“Because that’s what’s best?”

“Maybe. What do you think is best?”

“Options. I’d like options.”

“Okay, like what?”

“Like why do I have to move in with you? Why don’t you move in with me?”

“If you ask, I will.”

“Right. You’ll move from a five-bedroom house to a tiny two-bedroom apartment that only has roadside parking.”

“I would if it meant we were doing this together.”

“Fine. In six weeks, we will move into my apartment.”

“Why six weeks?”

“Because it’s not ready yet.”

“Are you planning on sharing June’s bed till then?”

“I am.”

“Okay, I have an option.”

She keeps her eyes on me but doesn’t speak.
