“And that lost trail led him right to you?”

I shrug. “I guess.”

“How is all that going? Have you come to terms that the two of you might actually entertain the idea of dating?”

“We aren’t dating.”

And we won’t.

“I know. I saidentertainthe idea.”

I shrug. “Things with us are good. It’s not the time to change anything emotionally. Plus, he’s moving back to Manhattan at some point, remember? It wouldn’t work.”

“You don’t think he will change his mind?”

I shake my head. “He knows Manhattan and I know Wyoming. It’s as simple as that.”

“But you’re having a baby, Sydney.”

“I’m well aware.”

“It just feels wrong for one of you to not give in.”

It sure as heck doesn’t feel right, but we knew this wouldn’t be easy from the start.

“Anyway, um, are you still moving in your apartment? Wasn’t that supposed to happen this week? It’s been more than a month, hasn’t it?”

“Yeah . . . about that. I sort of told Mark that they decided to do some remodeling, so I have to wait another two weeks.”

June shakes her head. “You’re playing with fire.”

I know it. But I just really love our bubble, and we are getting along so well, I want to keep it that way a little longer.

I’m still stunned by what Mark said on our way to the doctor the other day. It wasn’t that I didn’t think he’d want any of those things, but pictures and the memories—part of that feels like something couples do. Couples also have more than one baby. And we are not a couple.

We could be.

Especially because Mark stating he wants more than one baby made me happy rather than scared.

We could be a couple, but who is going to be the one to change their mind?

I don’t have time to dwell on the idea, because the doorbell rings. The first of our guests have arrived.

“Dad, Hero, Mom, what are you doing here?” I couldn’t even try to hide the surprise in my tone if I wanted to.

“Mark invited us.”

“Of course he did.”

“He said it was a last-minute gathering you two put together and that you’d probably forget to invite us.”

I nod. “His assumption is accurate.”

“I don’t like that heknowsyou already,” Hero says as he steps inside.

“Hero, hey, and Mr. and Mrs. Quinn, it’s great to see you both,” June greets them as they shrug off their coats.

“June,” my brother says and walks right to the kitchen.
