Look at how cute they are. Gosh, what it must be like to have everything figured out and simply be in love. Will Mark and I ever have that?

A hand on my thigh pulls me from my thoughts.

“Are you sure you’re okay?” Mark leans in to ask in a whisper.

“Yes.” I nod. I move my hand with every intention of removing his from my leg, but I lace our fingers together instead. “I’m having a good time.”

“So am I.”

Lennox laughs louder, drawing our attention.

“I think we should head home. Give these two a little time alone.”

“Sure, yeah.”

“Syd and I are going to head out,” Mark says loudly enough to startle our dinner dates.

I can’t help but smile again at how cute they are.

“We should make this a weekly thing,” Lennox says and directs her attention to me. “Every Friday night?”

I nod slowly, a prickle at my eyes. Why is that question going to make me cry?

“Yes,” I finally answer.

“See you two soon,” Mark says and helps me with my coat.

As we walk out to the car, he pulls me into his side and kisses my temple.

“Guess who has a new set of friends.”

“Me,” I answer and wrap my arms around him.

As happy as I am with how things have been turning out, I know it won’t last forever.

Would I truly be happy in Manhattan?

I know I used to want that life so badly, but now, I think I just want Mark.

CHAPTER TWELVE

Mark

Call me.

Two words are all my father’s email says. I shouldn’t be surprised. When it comes to business, he’s always to the point.

“Mark. That was prompt. I like that.”

“Hi, Dad. How’s your day?”

“It’s great. Look, I wanted to send you a couple contracts. Just a standard business process to get your name changed on things and to make sure that everyone understands how this transition is going to work.”

“Yeah, okay, send them over.”

“I will. Have someone look them over if you have questions. Attention to detail is always important.”

He’s my dad and this is our family company. How close should I be looking at them?
