Annoy you and read.Get a coffee now.
“I was thinking of heading home for the afternoon, grabbing dinner, and then coming back later. Do you want to join me?”
“Aren’t you home now?”
“I meant to Melody. I’ve been meaning to make the drive to see my parents. With my sister and I both living in Wind Valley now, my parents get lonely.”
“You want to go to Melody together?”
He nods. “Why not?”
“I don’t know. That sounds super couple-y.”
“Couple-y? Is that a word?”
“Maybe. You tell me, Mr. Writer.”
“I’m not sure it is, but hey, if you have enough confidence, why not use it?”
“O-kay.”
“So that’s a no on coming with me.”
“Yes.”
“You don’t want to go home?”
“Nope. I have things I need to get done around here.”
“You just said you have nothing to do today.”
“Nothing that involves you,” I clarify. Especially now that he bought me flowers. He can’t be nice when I have opposite plans.
He shakes his head. “Fine.”
Then he washes his dishes, dries them, and puts them away.
I quickly make some eggs and toast and am about to do my own dishes. I love it when there are no dishes in the sink, which means Beck does too.
I set my plate and fork down and slowly back up.
God, this is painful.
I make a run for it but crash right into Beck.
“In a hurry?” he asks.
“Yep.”
“To do nothing?”
“Yes,” I say with a nod. Neither of us has moved.
The rise of his chest brushes against mine.
I suck in a breath and close my eyes. The memory of the first time he kissed me on the dance floor consumes me, and I almost reach for him.
“Calla,” he says, his voice dropping deep. The warmth of his breath on my shoulder sends a tingle through my entire body.
