“Is everything okay?” I ask, standing and grabbing my keys.

“Grey and I are fine, if that’s what you mean.”

“Okay, good.”

“I’ll fill you in when you get here.”

“I’m on my way.”

Fifteen minutes later, I’m standing on Simon’s stairs, looking at about ten big fans in his basement.

“Calla is going to be furious when she gets here.”

I let out a small chuckle. Yeah, for once, I might not be at the top of her shit list. Although, to Simon’s credit, it’s not his fault his basement flooded.

“Did you at least give her a heads-up?” If I’m lucky, I won’t be here to witness her reaction.

“Yeah, I called her. She said she would head over right away, but it’s her first day at a new job. I should have waited.”

“Wait, so she’s headed here now?”

He nods.

“Well, that’s my cue.” I clasp a hand on his shoulder and turn to head back up his steps.

“Wait. I need a favor.”

I have a good feeling I know where he’s going with this, and our decades-long friendship is the only reason I’m not already in my SUV.

I slowly turn and cock one brow.

“What?”

“Have an open mind, alright?”

“Simon!” Calla’s voice rings through the house as she jogs down the steps. “Is every—what’s he doing here?”

“Well,” he starts, and she pauses before she reaches the step I’m on. “I need you to have an open mind.”

“Simon,” she snaps. “What did you do?”

His hands go up in surrender. “I said have an open mind, didn’t I?”

Then his gaze bounces back and forth between me and Calla.

“No.”

“No, no, no.”

“I’m not living with him.”

“Dude, you have really lost your mind, haven’t you? Do you need a vacation?” I ask him.

Simon’s head drops back as he takes a breath.

“Just hear me out. You’re both being overly dramatic,” he says.

Calla rolls her eyes, and I shake my head.
