I don’t think she can see me, but she’s staring at my house as if she’s looking for me. Her hand is playing with the collar of her shirt as she bites her bottom lip.

Oh hell.

It’s on her mind too. All the things we could be doing if I hadn’t broken the kiss and if she hadn’t run off.

It’s my fault. I know it is, but fuck, Greer is good. Too good. I’d ruin the friendship we’ve built and lose her. I can’t afford that, and I sure as hell don’t want to be the reason she ever cries again. A part of me thinks I should have just said fuck it and dealt with the consequences later. You know, that mindset of having her just once to get her out of my system. But I’m not an idiot. We all know how that works. Me? I chose theI’m so sorry routeeach time we kissed.

Maybe Iaman idiot.

I look back to the window, never taking my eyes off her as she stands there.

What’s she waiting for?

She reaches for something on her nightstand.

Her phone.

She types something quickly and then looks up.

My phone buzzes.

I pull it from my pocket, and the screen lights up my room.

Shit.

Another text comes through immediately.

I let out a sigh.

Hey.

I knew you were there.

I start to type outyepbut think better of it. This is Greer. I’m tired of pretending like she doesn’t faze me. She does. She unnerves me so badly that I can’t stand it, but hell, I’ll suffer if it means more time with her. And if she gives me one more chance, I’m not going to stop it.

I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have pulled away.

Her text is instant.

I shouldn’t have run. I should have just talked to you. So I’m sorry too.

She looks up, and I see the faintest smile.

Can I come over?

No.

But you can watch.

Oh hell. Four words. Four simple words was all it took for my mind to process a hundred scenarios of whatbut you can watchwould mean, sending a signal to my groin to wake up.

I take a deep breath, my thumb hovering over the keypad, when another text comes in.

Move so I can see you.

I take a deep breath and do as she says. Her wide smile makes my heart feel as if she were squeezing it.

No one’s smile has ever done that to me.
