“Would you like a proper tour, or have you searched all the nooks and crannies?”

“I think I’ve done enough damage.” My eyes lift to the stained-glass with what I assume are Jesus and his friends, staring at me with accusing eyes. “If I stay any longer, lightning might strike me.”

“Oh no, God does nothing as gentle as hit you with a lightning bolt. He gets his generals, the archangels, to smite. You’d burst into red mist like that,” she snaps her fingers and laughs at my expression of mild horror.

“I promise not to curse in here again.”

“You shouldn’t lie in the presence of God, honey.”

Marisol smiles and pats my arm, she is playing with me. I guess it’s going to take some time to get used to this place. Maybe the rectory and the annex are the only places I should go.

“I’ve got an hour to spare, would you like to go out for a quick coffee? The place down the street makes a delicious macchiato.”

“Sounds perfect, Marisol.”

“Excellent, let me grab my coat. Everyone is very excited about you being here to paint the wall.”

She walks to another doorway that leads God knows where. Fuck, stop. Apparently, my vocabulary, spoken and in thought, is blasphemous.

As I head out through the double-height wooden doors and into the bright sunlight, I’m hit by the scent of engine oil and the sight of a dozen bikes parked by the MC building.

I can’t imagine it’s very peaceful for the people who go into the church hearing all these bikes coming and going.

It’s time I found out why Colt doesn’t think it’s a bad thing having them across the street. He can’t be that forgiving of criminals.

When Marisol finds me waiting, she smiles broadly. This won’t be so bad. It’s the calm I need, and I’m not about to fuck it up.

At least I hope I’m not.

Chapter Two

Rebel

“We can’t leave the place empty,” I say to Nero as we walk up the stairs to the room we refer to as the chapel, where we hold church, our meetings to discuss club business.

A group text went out to the council to come in for the meeting. It won’t be long before the rest of the officers arrive.

“I’ve asked Nashville to pick four or five brothers who will stay here rotating,” I continue. “Blaze is going to set up more security outside.”

Nero nods and pushes through the door. I’ve filled him in on what happened last night, omitting the part where I held an innocent woman at gunpoint. Raven didn’t see that part either, so it stays between me and the little villain.

Kinsley.

“It’s a good call. If he can go after our people, there is nothing stopping him coming after the buildings. They already tried at the warehouse,” he reminds me.

A month ago, alarms triggered at one of our storage warehouses, and some weapons were stolen. It was a reconnaissance mission to see if they could get through our defenses.

“What’s our next move?” I close the door and join him at the table.

“Fury and Stryker didn’t find him, but they’re going to update us.” Nero stares at me when I don’t respond. “Say it,” he sighs.

“Say what?”

“That we should have tried harder after he took Sheridan and came after Oscar.”

“Hindsight is a terrible thing.”

He huffs. “Since when do you hold back?”
