Theo dug his hands in his trouser pockets. “If it’s that easy, you help her.”
Shrugging, Blake tilted his chair back. “I would, except my friends are too immature for Chloe. They’re still screwing around. No one’s planning on settling down. You could always ask—”
“Don’t even think about Logan.” Theo glared at his brother.
Blake held up his palms. “Jeez, calm down. He’d be the worst guy to set her up with. I was going to say, what about your buddy, Darius? I heard he broke up with his girl a couple of months ago. He could be looking to start dating again.”
“That’s a rebound.”
“Okay, well… there’s Sebastian who you run with some mornings. I know he’s single. He was hooking up with some chick in the bar last week.”
Theo raised an eyebrow. “Seb hooks up with multiple women on a regular basis. He’s not husband material.”
“Then how about Owen? He’s a decent guy.” Blake suggested.
He didn’t have a ready-made excuse for that one. Owen was a decent guy. He was an accountant whose firm contracted with theirs and also a friend. He didn’t screw around and wasn’t an asshole. “He’s going bald.”
Blake rolled his eyes. “Listen to yourself. ‘He’s going bald’? I mean, come on! It sounds like you don’t want to set her up with anyone because you have a thing for her.” Blake laughed, but when Theo didn’t join in, he choked and said, “Doyou have a thing for her?”
“She’s Ethan’s sister.”
“That doesn’t answer my question.”
“Look, Chloe asking me to find her a husband is fucked up. I mean, who does that?” Theo said to avoid the question.
“A friend who trusts you enough to help her,” Blake answered.
“I’m not doing it. I’m too busy with work. I don’t have time to play matchmaker.” Theo said, rearranging some paperwork on the desk.
“You work too much. This could be a good distraction for you.”
“I’m not doing it,” Theo repeated.
“Are you still going to be Ethan’s watchdog?”
Theo blew out a breath and dropped his elbows on the desk. “When she found out about that, she warned me to stay away. I’m going to have to tell Ethan she knows. He’s so worried about her, he’ll probably fly his mother to New York, and that would really piss her off.”
“Oryou could kill two birds with one stone. Set Chloe up with a couple of dates, and that way you can keep an eye on her for Ethan.”
“No. Now will you drop it?”
Blake stared at Theo through narrowed eyes. “You like her. That’s why you won’t help her out. You want her for yourself.”
“You’re being ridiculous,” Theo scoffed.
“Am I? Since when do you refuse to help out a friend? That’s if that’sallshe is? You’re helping Ethan; help her too.”
Theo threw his hands in the air in frustration. “Fine. I will try and find her a husband. Happy? Now shut the fuck up about it.”
Blake smirked. “Why does the thought of helping her make you look like you’ve eaten a rotten egg?” He paused. “Look, if you’re interested—”
Theo slapped a file on the desk. “I’m not.”
“But if you were, Chloe would be a great woman to move on with.”
“My divorce was finalized a week and a half ago. I’m not looking for another wife now or ever.”
Blake and his family believed his marriage had ended because he and Layla had drifted apart. They didn’t know the real reason it had ended was because he couldn’t give his ex-wife everything she wanted. A baby.
