Taking his hands out of his pockets, he tosses them in the air. “You were naked!”
“No, I wasn’t. I was wearing a robe.”
He rakes his hands through his hair. “You werenakedunder the robe. How the hell did you get home?”
“I called an Uber.”
Pinching the bridge of his nose, he shakes his head. “You were naked in a stranger’s car?”
“I wasn’t naked, I was wear—”
“Don’t you fucking say robe,” he growls.
I roll my eyes. “It was no big deal. I’m sure my Uber driver has seen stranger things.”
Hayden paces in front of the window. “I called you to make sure you got home safely. The least you could have done was answer your phone or reply to a fucking message.”
How dare he be mad at me? “I didn’t think you’d care how I got home since you were the one who kicked me out of your house.”
He slams a hand on his hip. “I didn’t kick you out.”
I’m not sure how it happened, but Hayden is standing toe to toe in front of me, our noses almost touching. I need to strain my neck back to look at him. “You did! So you shouldn’t care how I got home,” I say, my voice rising to match his.
“Shouldn’t care? I wouldn’t let my worst enemy leave my house naked.”
My hands dig into my hips. I yell into his face, “I was wearing a—”
“I fucking said, don’t say robe!”
“Hey, what the hell is going on in here?” We both turn to find Lucas strolling into the office, closing the door behind him.
“Nothing,” we both snap.
Lucas holds up both hands like he’s been caught in a robbery. “Doesn’t sound like nothing. I could hear you screaming at each other from my office. Something about someone being naked?” He grins. “Sounds like my kind of conversation.”
I cover my face and groan into my hands. I didn’t mean it when I told Hayden I didn’t care if the office staff overhears our conversation.
Hayden narrows his eyes at Lucas. “Mind your own fucking business.”
Lucas laughs, taking no offense at Hayden’s harsh tone. “Hey, Alyssa. Good to see you.” He smiles and saunters next to me. “I didn’t get a chance to speak to you at Avery’s party. Nice dive into the pool by the way.” Oh God, lately my life has been one humiliating moment after another. “Are you still dancing at The Temple?”
“Not at the moment. I’ve injured my ankle and need time off.” After two weeks and exercises from my physiotherapist, my ankle is feeling better. It won’t be long until I’ve fully recovered. Hopefully I’ll be back soon. I need the money.
“Hope it’s not too serious. Let me know when you’re back at work. I haven’t visited The Temple in months. I’d like to say hi to a couple of the ladies.” He grins.
“What do you want, Lucas?” Hayden interrupts our conversation.
“I wanted to let you know I finished looking through the proofs from the photoshoot. If you and Finn want to take a look, I’ve picked out the ones that will work the best for the campaign.”
“I’ll be in your office in a minute.”
“Okay then.” Lucas slaps the tops of his thighs. “I’ll leave you two to discuss whatever it was you were discussing. Although, you might want to keep it down.”
We wait for the door to close behind Lucas. My anger has subsided. “I’m sorry I worried you last night. It probably wasn’t the best idea to catch an Uber in a bathrobe.”
Hayden cocks an eyebrow. “You think?”
I narrow my eyes. “I’m trying to be the bigger person here and admit to my mistakes. You should try it sometime.” The anger is boiling up again.
