After a stint in the bathroom to clean up, we stepped back into the suite, dressed and ready to go.
“I’m excited,” she told me, doing a little shoulder shimmy.
I had to laugh. “I know you are because you stay hungry, and you know we’re going to eat.”
“Exactly. So hurry up.” She shimmied out the door toward the elevator.
Soleil and I had returned to Quietude Resort and Spa on Iredia to celebrate the one-year anniversary of where and when we met. It wasn’t the exact same week; it was a few weeks earlier because once we left Iredia, we would head to South Carolina. Mikayla would be starting middle school in the fall. Soleil and I were going to attend her “Step-up” ceremony. We were only staying for the weekend, but we planned to make the most of it.
“Wow,” I said as we stepped inside the Majestic Ballroom. “They’ve stepped it up. They’ve gone from wine and cheese tastings to lobster tastings?”
With our hands locked together, we sauntered slowly to the first display. “Grilled Caribbean lobster with lime butter and grilled peaches,” the attendant described the offerings.
“That sounds so good,” Soleil said.
We each took plates and put a sampling of the offerings on them. I forked some grilled peach and put it to her mouth. She slowly devoured it while I stared at her lips. Her mouth was so fucking sexy. “Damn. Watching you never disappoints.”
She smiled as she chewed. “That’s really good. And thank you.”
I grabbed a handful of her ass and squeezed. Sometimes, I couldn’t believe she was real. Sometimes, I couldn’t believe she was mine. We finished the taste and drifted to a few more displays: Maine lobster cooked in brown butter over herb-infused risotto; Blue lobster with blistered brussels sprouts and sourdough flat bread; and Norwegian lobster with black truffle butter, mango-chili salsa, and brioche.
“Ooh, this would be so good in a taco,” she said after tasting the lobster with mango-chili salsa. “I’m gonna try to make this when we get back home.” She took another bite and was about to take another but stopped herself. “I have to remember not to eat too much. We have a pool-side couple’s massage after this.”
“Okay, cool.”
“See,” she said to me. “This is why you’re my favorite travel companion. When I go somewhere with Bryanna, she has all these . . . opinions. With you, I just tell you what we’re doing, and you’re with it.”
I laughed. “I’m your favorite because I give you free rein to be bossy?”
“No, you’re my favorite because you understand and accept that my plans are the best.” She laughed at herself, and I couldn’t help but join in.
After the massage, Soleil and I found ourselves off the resort’s property and in town. Once again, she dragged me in and out of all of the boutiques and stores.
“Ay,” I told her when we ended up in a boutique with really nice sundresses. “The resort is having a bonfire tonight. We should go, you know? For old time’s sake. That bonfire was kinda like our first date.”
“I thought the wine and cheese tasting was our first date.”
I shook my head. “Nah. We just both happened to show up at the tasting. I think I actually asked you to meet me at the bonfire. That was a date.”
She narrowed her eyes. “You had a team commitment that night. Why would you invite me on a date when you knew you had a team commitment?”
“Stop bringing up old shit, and just go with the narrative. We’re gonna relive our first date tonight.”
She waved me off dismissively. “Whatever, Spence. So, you want me to wear a sundress, because that’s what I wore that night. Are there gonna be tacos?”
“You want me to call the resort and see if they’re gonna have food trucks out there tonight?”
“Yeah. And if they’re not, see if you can hire one. That lobster and salsa has me in the mood for tacos.”
“I’ll do that. Go find a dress that’ll make my dick hard.”
She giggled as she hit the rack. She tried on dress after dress after dress. On the real, Soleil’s ass had me so gone that I didn’t think there was a dress in the shop that wouldn’t or didn’t look good on her. She wanted the one she chose to be a surprise for me, so she made me leave the store while the salesclerk wrapped it. Then she let me come back in to pay for it.
“You’re using me,” I teased, handing the salesclerk my card.
“I love you.” She stood on her tip toes and kissed me on the lips.
“I love you, too.”
