The bastard pressing her onto the bed doesn’t get the chance to react before I shoot him too. I avoid hishead though, that would only get me in trouble. But a broken shoulder won’t bring as many consequences.

The bullet goes straight through his flesh and causes an injury, blood spilling around him within seconds. I see the pain in his shallow eyes, the eyes I’ve known since childhood.

“Be quiet, or I’ll slice your little lover boy’s dick off,”I hissas a smile forms on my lips, though she can’t see it through the tinted glass of my helmet.

I grab her pink night gown and give it to her, making her pull it over her head. “Now, close your eyes,” I say, my voice dark.

She does as I say, her body shaking as her bodyguard escapes the room, not even trying to save her.Pathetic. Disbelief covers her entire face as she watches him leave her behind.

“This will hurt a little, it’ll make you fall asleep, but it’s for the best,” I say, preparing her for the needle in my hand before taking a steady grip around her arm.

“No!” she says, trying to loosen my grip on her, but it only makes me hold tighter.

“Don’t be scared, Anastasia,” I soothe her. Just her name makes me hardandshe doesn’t even know it.

“I’m not scared!” she hisses between gritted teeth, her ambition and stubbornness making her think I’ll let go. Little does she know I’ve been waiting for this for six years, and there’s no reality where I’m letting her escape.

I hold her steady, ignoring every word she spits out as I stick the needle into her arm. “Let me go!” she screams, trying to kick between my legs, but I move away right in time for her to miss.

“The system is back up, you need to leave. Now!” My father’s strong voice comes through the helmet, and within seconds, my heart pounds faster.

“Let me go!” Anastasia screams again, pulling me back into the situation.

I grab her face gently, “I won’t harm you, babydoll. You’re safe with me, I promise.”

She blocks the words out, not taking in a single one of them. But they’re true. I’ll never harm her, and I’ll never let anyone hurt her either.

Her fight against me becomes less intense as the sleeping drug makes its way through her system. And right as heavy footsteps start echoing from the hallway outside her room, she loses consciousness.

I lift her into my arms instantly, holding her tight in a way that makes me never want to let go.

Moving towards the broken window and the balcony I came from, I take the same way out and escape just in time. I move down the staircase with fast steps, through the darknessof their labyrinth of a garden before finally reaching my emerald-green bike.

Sitting down steady, I realize she’s short enough for me to place her over my lap, which makes this process a lot easier.

“Got her,” I say, letting my father know I succeeded, though I didn’t have any doubts in myself unlike him.

“Good.” I can hear his smirk from here.

I start the engine, and the way my bike roars could wake up an entire neighborhood. A smile forms on my lips, relief and satisfaction replacing the adrenaline.

The wheels start moving and it doesn’t take long before headlights appear behind me, along with sounds I know very well.I look behind and guards have appeared, dressed in all black just like Matheo. They took longer than I expected. Who even hired those useless guards?

Tim can’t afford anything else at the moment. The thought echoes in my head and makes me chuckle.

I make sure the distance between us grows, but the two of them come closer just as quickly. I turn my right hand towards me, the speed increasing the same second. Another laugh breaks outin the helmet, accepting the lame challenge they’re giving me.

I make my own roads, driving in places you’re not supposed to, only to toy with the two men following us. But I make sure to keep Anastasia steady, not wanting her to get hurt in any way.

We drive past cars, shift lanes like the police are after us, and they will be soon if this doesn’t come to an end. My hoodie clings to my body the faster I go, and Anastasia’s blonde hair swings in the wind beneath me.

Pure adrenaline runs through me, the high grabbing me with force. These are the things you only see in movies, or at least that’s what people believe.

As the tunnel leading to my father’s house comes closer, surprisingly empty of vehicles, I make sure to take my chance of getting rid of the guards. I grab my gun before turning around, pointing it towards each of them... but I hesitate before shooting.

The heavy emotions I carry within steals my attention. They will crash. Brief moments from my father’s accident flash before my eyes.

Bike crashes are the ones I hate the most. After almost losing my father at four years old, it became a lingering fear to lose someone in such a terrible accident, or put anyone in the same situation he was in.
