“He didn’t even see me,” Alex replied. “I’m not sure either of you would’ve noticed a piano dropping on your heads.”
A blush threatened to creep over Bryce. Finding out someone liked him was still a thrill, no matter how many times it happened. Or didn’t. He hadn’t opened himself up to possibility in a while. A little social life with someone outside the DWO could be a good thing for him.
That, and he wondered if Jesse was as interesting as his smile.
“Is our leader blushing?” Celia asked.
“I do believe he is, agent.” Alex picked up his coffee and slurped it.
“I think this requires further investigation, agent. Possibly interrogation.”
Bryce’s teammateswouldfinally bond while teasing him. He picked up the manila folder. “Enjoy it while you can. I have a feeling we’re going to be in research mode for a while on this one.”
Alex groaned, and Celia checked her wrist for a non-existent watch. She took her coffee from the drink carrier. “Oh, look at that. I have a program to produce. Thanks for the coffee, boss.”
“You’re welcome.”
A message alert distracted Bryce as Celia left the coffee shop. Out of habit he glanced down.
One littleYes. Tonight? Where? When?and Bryce’s heart picked up tempo. He wasn’t mad at Alex for setting him up, especially since he wouldn’t have gotten this far on his own. After sending a text telling Jesse to pick the spot and that seven would work, Bryce slid his phone into his pocket.
“You’re welcome,” Alex said with a smug smile. He took another sip of his latte.
“I’ll say thank you when he turns out to be as decent as he looks.”
“Decent in bed or a decent human being?”
Bryce handed one coffee over to Alex, then took his and left behind the carrier. “It’s possible to be both.”
“Yeah, but you’re really hoping he’s good in bed, aren’t you?”
Last thing he needed was Alex teasing him all day about that. “Maybe all I want is a good conversation.”
Alex rolled his eyes. “You’re a boring old man.”
Bryce headed for the door. “I get the job done. Now, come on. We’ve got work to do.”
