I grip her sweet face between my hands and stare into her eyes and say with purpose, “I love you, Sunday. I loved you from the moment your eyes connected with mine across the bar the first time we met. I never stopped loving you. Every minute, every second we were together, I cherished deep in my heart, keeping my emotions checked, refusing to let them out. But they burned deep inside me, and the fire only got hotter when you left. I couldn’t sleep, eat, or operate, knowing you weren’t by my side, and when Ryder told me you didn’t report in, I was heading to Maine the next day.”

“You were?”

Her shock is evident, and I can’t resist kissing those sweet lips, and I never will because it appears this asshole has realized what is most important in his life.

Kissing Sunday, knowing she is safe, takes on new meaning. For the first time since I met her, I am planning a lifetime ofmemories with her. To make it up, to be better, and worship the ground she walks on, if she’ll have me.

The car comes to a stop before I can ask, and as we pull apart, she whispers nervously, “Where are we?”

“Paradise.”

I wink, and her sweet grin causes me to squeeze her hand hard, reluctant to let her go even for a second.

The door is open, and Sunday’s eyes widen when a biker peers in, his face covered by a skeleton mask.

He steps back, and we exit the black SUV and without a word, he jumps into the driver’s seat and heads off down the driveway.

“What the fuck?”

Sunday blinks at the huge white mansion, now floodlit before us, and I chuckle softly.

“Don’t ask me any questions because I have no answers. Just enjoy the ride, knowing we’re out of here in the morning and will probably never be back.”

I lead her around the mansion toward the guest house, and she grips my hand so tightly I love how it hurts.

“You say they’re an MC club.”

“Not like any other, for sure.”

“Where is everyone?”

“Who the fuck knows, but they’re here somewhere.”

“You haven’t met them?”

“Five members, six if you count the driver, but I wouldn’t be able to identify any one of them.”

“But they live like billionaires, not bikers.”

“It appears so.”

We reach the guest house, and as we step inside, Sunday glances around with admiration. “I’ve never seen such decadence in a freaking entrance hall before. I can only imagine what the main house is like.”

“I doubt we’ll get that privilege, darlin, but the most important thing right now is getting you naked and tucked up safely in bed. The rest we can figure out as we go along.”

Her happy smile is worth more than gold, my health, and my life because I’ve concluded that loving someone means you put their needs way above any you may have. My past almost wrecked my future, and Sunday deserves to hear why. But not now. We will have that conversation later because right now, all that matters is keeping that smile on her pretty face, whatever it takes.

CHAPTER 48

SUNDAY

This had better not be a dream because if it is, I never want to wake up. What began as a nightmare has turned into the most impossible dream come true.

Razor came for me.

The Reapers came for me, and I will never stop being grateful for that.

My fingers go to my neck, and I shiver inside, remembering what could have been my fate. The memory of not being able to breathe is still fresh in my mind.
