“I’m trying.” I sighed. “And I kind of have another favor to ask you, Alan.”

He nodded immediately. “Whatever you need.”

“Charm and I need to record a song to get her out of her contract. When can you take us?”

“Shit.” He looked at his watch. “I can take y’all right now.”

I looked over at Charm.

“Let’s do it.” She nodded once.

“Let’s do it,” Alan echoed.

“I’ll ask Steven to get us breakfast, coffee, and tea, then let’s get to work.”

We all stood, synced our schedules as necessary, then exited the boardroom.

I did a double take when I saw Genie leaning against the wall beside the door. She pushed off and made a beeline for me.

“Hey, Myome.”

“Hey Genie. What can I do for you?”

“Well, I see that you’re trying to help the label get positive promo and help the artists get… any kind of promo,” shefinished. “I was wondering if maybe Trill Loyalty could perform at a benefit concert.”

“A benefit concert?” I repeated. “I like the idea and thought behind it, but honestly, we don’t have the manpower or support to try to do something like that just yet.”

“Well there’s a benefit already happening to raise money at a women’s shelter that I lived in when my mom was running from my dad. There are usually performers every year, so I just wanted to throw the line out and see if you’d bite.”

“So we wouldn’t be planning the event?”

“Nope. You’d just be showing up and performing.”

I looked from Genie to Charm and back then nodded.

“Sure. We’ll do it.”

“Perfect! I’ll have them send you an email.”

“Okay.”

Genie headed off and Charm closed the space between us.

“Can you commit the entire label to a benefit performance?” she asked.

“Of course I can. I am the first lady of the label after all," I sang.

Charm held my gaze and I blinked at her before we both burst into laughter.

CHAPTER 19

DRIX

“We’re hoping for twenty-four hour care,” I said. “It’ll be split into three daily shifts of eight hours. With shift changes and shit, we’re thinking forty-two hour work weeks. We’ll pay twenty-five dollars an hour and pay out forty-five hours. Five hours will be overtime, so one thousand, one hundred and eighty-seven dollars and… fifty cents?” I did the mental math. “Weekly. Every Friday.” I glanced at Chandler. “Fact check that math for me.”

“It’s right.” She nodded once and I sat back in my seat.

“And it’ll just be partial care?” the woman in front of me reiterated.
